New to baseball?
Cardinals broke an all time record getting shutout in Colorado. Uncommon incompetence.
What "record?".

Ending a streak isn't a record...
Write MLB a letter.

https://www.mlb.com/news/rockies-end-st ... ut-shutout
It was not only the first shutout of the season for the 26-76 Rockies, but Colorado ended a span of 220 consecutive games without a shutout, a record in the Modern Era.
Baseball loves records with qualifiers..."in the modern era.'

IF the Cards end up sweeping the Padres (pause for laughter) ................... do you still feel this way?
Even if they sweep SD they should be sellers at the deadline. Why would sweeping SD if it happens change that as the correct path?

Within 2 games of wildcard? If not even closer?

1.5 games out of the wild card with 5 days left to make trades. I don't see a big sell off.
Big mistake if that happens SM.

Helsley has to go, Mo can't screw up again (re: not dealing Fedde this offseason).

Maton should fetch a solid return, he goes too unless C. Bloom wants to keep him.

Matz, meh

Most likely won't see a BIG trade (re: Gorman or Donny or Noot) but he has to deal those three.
We find out on Thursday. If Mozeliak and Bloom think they have adequate replacements perhaps there will be movement.
I don't even think the "adequate replacements" comes into play.

This is about accumulating assets for players on expiring contracts.

Well they would be ahead of SD who is currently the 3rd WC spot. At worst case they’d be half game back of the 3rd WC spot if not ahead in it. I’m not saying it should stop them from dealing some guys…but with Mo it might.

yup.. this is what this team has been all season.. inconsistent

quite maddening at times
It's better said that they are consistently inconsistent.

I accused Mo of being myopic for not trading earlier, but the fans who don't want him to sell off are baffling. Playoffs? Pipe dream. And even if they get there to go anywhere? Delirious to think that.
It's malfeasance not to sell off anything where a decent return is possible because again -- these guys are going to be free agents!!

With that roster Shildt might be under a little pressure.

Means nothing. Team needs to be honest with itself. They are not built for a deep playoff run. Don’t delay getting to that point trying to make a run at the last wildcard.

Exactly. Who cares if you squeak into a wild card round and get boat raced without even playing a home game?

I have no issues with the holding onto assets that are not pending free agents and making a run. Just don’t want to hold onto assets (and getting nothing for them) and delay getting this fixed in future years.

not surprising at all a team that is 3 games over 500 is good enough to win but not consistently

You only change your mind in direction if they were in tje middle of a roll 26-10 or something similar and they wete clearly trending up and then you'd maybe try to improve them or if they'd actually 'been in it'. Yes they are close to a spot and were in a one for a moment earlier in the season. But you dont get the feeling this team has been really in it, this season. This is not a team with enough elite talent waiting to break out as in 2011.

This is literally a team that sent Donovan as their only representative to the AS game. Yes, they have a number of solid players, but they are not strong enough in any particular area to match up well to a top team. 2015 team, esp with Waino/Holliday injured most of the season wasnt elite talented, but their pitching overachieved and they played at the top of their talent.

Once again, not enough elite talent and they arent even playing at the top of the talent they do have. This team, without upgrades does well to sneak in the playoffs and doesnt last long. Why would you skip leveraging expiring contracts in that scenario?

Right. The team has NO superstars. Earlier this year there were comparisons to 2006 or 2011, and I kept reminding them that those teams had HOF and other superstars like Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Holiday, Berkman, Molina plus Carp and/or Waino.
This roster doesn't have anyone like that.
