Gray
Liberatore
McGreevy
Leahy
Z Thompson (last chance), Mathews, Roby, offseason trade, Pallante

They are signalling they are going to give Leahy a shot. Doyle is not going to start in the MLs next year. He may make it later in the season. Lets face it, this team is not ready to compete next year. Give Doyle a chance to develop in the minor leagues so we can maximize his potential. Hjerpe also comes back sometime next year and may yet develop. Hence may surprise us. Hopefully Bloom makes a decent trade for SP talent.

Next year is about positioning for 2027. Gray is gone. Arenado, if still here, has a cheap year left. There is no money on the books. They should know what they need to compete. They should also know what they have in Liberatore, McGreevy and Leahy.

Doyle
McGreevy
Libertore
?

Pallante

Gallen Valdez and Cease are available. Which one would you want? Is there another SP that fits? IMO needs to be a 1 or a 2 if they truly want to compete. Don’t put so much pressure on Doyle as a rookie
Knowing Doyle's personality from seeing him at Tenn. , there won't be pressure. The team is in a rebuild and he will probably feel less pressure than he did for the Vols trying to get to the College WS in Omaho . I am not concerned about pressure for him . He will be playing for very revamped Cardinal team. Let him have fun and fire the ball and act 'crazy' out there !
But they still need to add to the top. Gray is not a true #1 and Doyle according to most projects as a #2 unless secondaries develop more. Libertore and McGreevy are bottom of the rotation guys and Pallante is a meh 5-6. Everyone knows injuries will happen and teams need 7SP. Just hope they don’t go after another bottom of the rotation guy and end up with quantity and not quality
Do you really think the cardinals would invest in a top line starter, especially with a major work stoppage on the horizon? No chance
Pretty sure players don’t get paid during a strike, so the concern there is overstated.

I don’t see Doyle being ready in 2026.
Gray
Libby
McGreevy
Pallante
Veteran FA think 2024 Lynn or Gibson type

Sure I would prefer a top of rotation FA signing but I don’t think ownership will spend the money.

Depth
Doyle
Matthews
Roby health ?
Hence health ?
Graceffo
Leahy
Henderson having good year at AA

One report was that they might try Kyle Leahy as a starter. Supposedly he has enough different pitches to do it;

Lol, yeah, impatient me also, but guess you never know.
I'm always over eager to move guys up, probably before they're ready, but Doyle in the OD rotation does seem a stretch.

His coach from Tenn said he doesn’t need minors and based on conversations with Cardinals he fully expects him to start in 2026

Honestly, it's kinda pointless to even worry about.

Gray
Libertore
McGreevy
Traded for or signed FA
Traded for or signed FA

I'd love to have Doyle if he's ready on OD but he'll most likely be a call-up.

And H e l l no to Pallante, he's trending in the wrong direction.

Either he goes to the 'pen or just add him into trade package because his ceiling is a bad #5 starter.

Shouldn't Ixan Henderson be in the mix? Dude has a 2.75 ERA across 200 innings in the Minors

How quickly we fall out of love around here........

Remember Quinn Matthews

Took until page 2 for anyone to mention Quinn Mathews. Are we already writing that guy off in favor of the new shiny toy, Doyle?

I don’t think they are writing him off but I don’t think you can count on him for the rotation next season when he hasn’t been good at Memphis and needs to work on his control. Maybe if he finishes strong this season and lights in spring training you maybe consider it but I think even then he would start at Memphis next season

Pallante is only marginally better than either Mikolas or Fedde. He should be in the left-out-group.

While I don't disagree, they are people writing Doyle in before he throws a professional pitch.

Both should have an audition in the spring IMO.
