I think he might be experiencing some arm fatigue that's taken away his edge. He just doesn't appear to have the same zip he had earlier in the season. jmho

His ERA is 5. Thats not Solid.
He’s not in a competitive rotation. Nor is he on a competitive team. I think he’d be an solid #5 on a competitive MLB team.
That still isn’t solid. Even if he were in a competitive rotation an ERA of five would be a weak link in this era.
Borderline serviceable, yes. But not solid.

He is what he is. A pitch to contact low strikeout subject to batted ball luck pitcher. That's all he's ever been. His true position is to come out of the bullpen and get a ground ball for a double play or pitch a bunch of innings in a blowout game. He doesn't belong in a winning rotation and never has. Maybe if he learned a split finger to get strikeouts it would be different. He has the arm to pitch, just not the pitches to face hitters for a long time.

THIS! I've said this since they were toying with him beginning the year in the rotation. Just like Matz, they both are better, and better for the team ovwrall, out of the pen if used judiciously!
