This team has plenty of so-called speed. When was the last hit-and-run? How often does a player hit behind the runner and how often has it a runner on third base with less than two outs and they have been stranded.
It's called situational managing and situational baseball. This team has lacked in both.

Winn and Scott can run, that's it for team speed
These dudes have NO Functional Baseball Speed: Burley, Arenado, Contreas, Pages, Pozo, Gorman...Donovan, Noot and Walker are marginal at best.

It's playing situational baseball. This team does not.

'this team has plenty of so-called team speed ' . ? Really ?
How in the world would our lineup have plenty of team speed when the 9 guys batting daily have a total of FOUR TRIPLES for the entire season .. Dead Last .
Getting a triple has nothing to do with managerial strategy (hit and runs etc ) . It shows that our guys overall are much slower than our competition .
Our two top divisional rivals have 20 and 10 triples each while the Cardinals have FOUR ?

The Colorado Rockies led all teams in triples with 26.
The Cardinals rant 20th in leaving runners in scoring position.
Colorado is 5th.
It has nothing to do with triples, it has to do with functional/situation baseball, which this team lacks.

That's great and all, but it's completely off-topic in this thread... about team speed.

Agree. Let’s stay with team speed.

I'm not a genius, Scouty. You are. The announcers always talk about VS2 and Winn being speed merchants. But they are not all that great at stealing bases. Study and learn the art of base stealing. That's what I think they should do. But then again, YOU'RE the genius.
I'm not genius either, and it further shows your idiocy to believe that...
Argo is a good base stealer.. how you say he isn't, further proves you're a moran
That's it. Winn isn't
LoL. The 'art" of base stealing. They made bases bigger, and limit throw overs. And Winn still struggles
It's laughable. MLB basically increased the ease of stealing bases and the only good base stealer they have is Argo.
Winn should be embarrassed.
I’m not a huge advocate for it(yet), but this would be an instance where I’d be an advocate for Pujols as manager.
The guy was slow but had great baseball sense and just knew the right times to swipe a base and was good at it. If anyone could help Winn it would be a manager that knows the game outside of the iPad

LoL. No
He was interviewed on MLB just recently and he's working for the Angels

One right handed outfielder who can't hit his weight leaves us extremely vulnerable to any nobody who throws from the left side.
Walker has shown great improvement with the bat. He is 8 for 22 over the last 6 games including 3 doubles. We could be seeing his emergence as a hitter.

Was looking over some MLB team stats and a few things jumped out when comparing the Cardinals to our current division rivals Cubs & Brewers.
The first that jumped out was the hits/ stolen bases
Team Hits Stolen Bases
Cubs 892 118
Cards 876 57
Brewers 841 11i6
While the Cardinals are comparable in base hits our two rivals not only have MORE stolen bases but OVER DOUBLE the amount .
Fans are misled when they watch games when VS II and Winn are mentioned as speed guys . Yes, but look at a few of the other starters .. Burly, Arenado, Contreras are slowpokes by MLB standards. So 1/3 of the lineup can't run but this impacts beyond stealing bases .
What about our balls that are hit in the corners and gaps during the season.
Have you noticed the Cardinals rarely get any TRIPLES ? You are correct if you have .
Team Triples
Cubs 20
Brewers 10
Cards 4
Yes the Cardinals are DEAD LAST in the MLB with just 4 triples. That is an atrocious team stat.
Yes, the Cubs generate more runs with their HR balls but the Brewers sure don't. They have less homeruns than the Cardinals and also fewer hits yet they score more runs. It shows their team speed is better ..and the coaching staff is more aggressive with their base running due to that . It's a combination of both factors .
Hoping to see changes moving forward.
It would also help if the fast guys the Cardinals do have could get on base

Scott, pop up, failed bunt attempt, pop up, pop up. Yeah he's a keeper.
