Re: Expansion
Expansion is just the idiotic plan i would expect from Manfred. He should hire Johnny Mozeliak to be his lieutenant. Those two [redacted] are perfect for each other.

+1 there’s already a lack of talent at the big league level could you imagine if they added two more teamsMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 16:37 pm Should be a few franchises that need contraction, no expansion needed. Baseball is already a convoluted mess.

Re: Expansion
Yep, would require 10 to 12 more starters, teams are already scraping the bottom of the barrel.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 21:29 pm+1 there’s already a lack of talent at the big league level could you imagine if they added two more teamsMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 16:37 pm Should be a few franchises that need contraction, no expansion needed. The Rangers and Astros will not be supportive of this…Melville wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 19:32 pmThere are over 5M people in San Antonio/Austin - and they are only about 75 miles apart.
Entire area is growing like crazy and that won't change.
Domed stadium just north of San Antonio would be perfect for MLB.
Montreal should be back in the mix as well.
Nashville?
Maybe - but limited future upside.
Salt Lake City?
Terrible.

Montreal is #1
BDWJr will fight tooth & nail not to let Nashville in since he draws from Tennessee which has been Cardinals country for decades (Braves won't like it either since they have fans there as well).

Re: Expansion
Two consecutive seasons of teams (White Sox and Rockies) chasing record futility. What could possibly go wrong with expansion?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 21:29 pm+1 there’s already a lack of talent at the big league level could you imagine if they added two more teamsMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 16:37 pm Should be a few franchises that need contraction, no expansion needed. Perhaps BDW is trying to save Nashville for the cards?rockondlouie wrote: ↑23 Jul 2025 10:33 am Montreal is #1

Re: Expansion
The Rays and Marlins' attendance has sucked for years. the A's will eventually move to Las Vegas and have an uptick at least for a while. The Rays and Marlins should be moved instead of adding more teams. Florida does not work for MLB, except for spring training.

Re: Expansion
I have lived in the Nashville area for 20+ years now, and a MLB team here, IMO, does not make any sense. So many issues, but just a few -
-MLB will want a downtown stadium, but right now that space has been taken up by the new Titans stadium, so parking, traffic, would be a nightmare.
-A stadium honestly any direction from downtown would still make traffic a nightmare, since Nashville has very poor public transit and no monorail, subway, etc.
-How does it expand the footprint of MLB? You are putting a team right in Braves/Cardinals country (and to a lesser degree, the Reds & Cubs). I can't imagine any of those owners would be happy about a new franchise in Nashville.
-I don't think Nashville could handle 81 home games, since the bulk of the visitors come on weekends for bachelorette parties and concerts. There are come strong companies/corporations down here, but they are already being spread thin with the Titans, Preds, Nashville SC.
-This is, and will always be, SEC/college sports country #1.
-They do have a good potential ownership group, and you can click on the link below and see everyone involved with the Stars.

Re: Expansion
Expansion is driven by the following:
-TV market size - yes, even in these days of streaming content, though becoming less of a factor
-Corporate presence, especially the location of headquarters
-Proximity to other MLB markets
Consider Nashville:
26th in TV market size, larger than 7 other clubs
5 Fortune 500 HQs, plus another 8 Fortune 1000 HQs
It's also been among the most popular destination for large corporate relos:

About 250 miles to Cincy and Atlanta
Charlotte, NC has a better profile,
21st TV market, and if you add the Raleigh-Durham market you are talking about top 10.
8 Fortune 500 HQ, plus another 10 Fortune 1000 HQs
250 miles to Atlanta, 400 to DC
Bring the Charlotte Knights to MLB!

Really, Montreal #1?? Even with good players they didn't do well or last--Canada is not much of a baseball countryrockondlouie wrote: ↑23 Jul 2025 10:33 am Montreal is #1

Wow. That sure seemed to come out of nowhere!MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 16:46 pm Whatever snide remarks you make Scouty old man, I don't read them, but I know you are a sourpuss and like to make 3 word smart alec posts. So, don't waste your time replying to me.
With that said, yea, smart idea to expand. Just add to the amount of players who aren't qualified to compete in the ML., but the money is right. Its not really about championships any more, for players, or owners.
