This afternoon on a popular St Louis area sports station. Lots of good things to say regarding Wetherholt.craviduce wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:04 pmand when did Alex say that?
I hope he's back, too...I hope this just a scheduled shut down to watch his innings....but we've been told nothing
Are we shutting down young arms early to save them for 2026?

Alex said that Roby would be back tomorrow? Or is this you being hopeful?Shady wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:14 pmThis afternoon on a popular St Louis area sports station. Lots of good things to say regarding Wetherholt.craviduce wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:04 pmand when did Alex say that?

No, he didn't say that. I pretty much posted my interpretation.craviduce wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:21 pmAlex said that Roby would be back tomorrow? He's at 100 innings now, so you have to be careful with him at this point, so they are apparently looking to give him some rest moving forward.
Of course, they could have done that earlier this season with a 6 man rotation, but that never happened. He was always due to hit a wall at some point due to the innings increase from last year, so not sure why they weren't a bit more proactive, but here we are.
But yea, unless a team wants to trade for them, that's probably going to mean that Fedde and Mikolas are going to continue to get starts. Someone has to fill the innings. I'd rather have them starting games in a losing season than blow out Liberatore's arm just to get him to throw some more innings.
Losing season? We are 2 games over .500 with over 2 months left. Man, people give up so easily!

+1 Bernie said the same thing he’s already surpassed all of his innings last season. That’s the problem with them jerking him between rotation and bulllpen since calling him up. The innings catch up to themokcardfan wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 12:40 pm On Sunday's postgame, Al Hrab said Libby's velocity and success had declined in his last eight starts, and mgt decided to give him a break. Al noted that Libby is on pace for the most innings ever, and the rest might be good now. In fact, Al said maybe they should have done this earlier, when it became apparent Libby's speed had declined. (Almost an open criticism of the decision-making!)

In your arm is a muscle. And like a penis, you either use it or you lose it. What’s it gonna be.

Nothing good comes from letting prospects pitch on this team with this manager and these coaches

He did not convey any specific information about the current injury.Roby is on the injured list down here . . . His problem his entire professional career has been staying off the injured list, and he is back on that now with what should not be, necessarily, a long term injury but you never know every time he gets on there.

Thanks for clarifying. It's still fairly encouraging about the Roby injury situation.

I did manage to read your draft threads--that was a ton of content packed into one place; much appreciated!

Well, yea. Two games over .500 in late July is a losing season to me. There's two months left, so I guess miracles could happen, but is there anything about the team that would give you the confidence that such a thing is possible? Call it giving up or whatever, but we've seen this team over the past 3 years. Nothing has changed except for stars leaving and getting older, starting pitching staying bad, and young players that you want to see taking steps forward taking steps backwards. There's a few exceptions, but that's generally it. So I don't expect some big comeback.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:26 pmLosing season? We are 2 games over .500 with over 2 months left. If this was an anomaly season in the middle of a run of really good seasons? Sure, I'd be with you, but they've been bad for awhile. And yes, bad for the Cardinals is a team that is consistently around.500. We're not the Rockies or White Sox. The Cardinals should have standards. I'm not a World Series or bust guy, but I do expect this team to consistently compete for the NL Central and have a chance to win a series or two in the playoffs most years.
I'll put effort in believing in this team when the team starts putting effort into being good again. This is coming from a guy that people have long called a homer. And looking at the crowds at the stadium it would seem that a lot of fans agree with me. I'll always try and be positive about this team, but it's clear what this season is shaping up to be.
Since the draft I've turned the page to 2026. To me, that's more exciting than what is going on right now.

I've been warning about this since May or so. He was always going to hit a wall this year because of how he was handled the last few years. Can you imagine how this year might look for him if he would have just stayed in a normal starter track the past 3 years?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025 17:28 pm +1 Bernie said the same thing he’s already surpassed all of his innings last season. We're continuing to pay the price for poor decisions made over the last few years. And it's looking like that is going to continue into 2026. Hopefully we can turn it around by 2027.

McGreevy just up from the minors threw 91 pitches yesterday. Earlier in the season he threw 100. Fedde threw a complete game 110 pitches with a 10 run lead. Gray was left in the game 2nd game from the all star break despite the fact something was clearly wrong with him.
If the goal is to save arms Marmol didn't get the email.

What do Fedde and Gray have to do with the conversation?ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑22 Jul 2025 07:42 am McGreevy just up from the minors threw 91 pitches yesterday. Earlier in the season he threw 100. Not sure what you’re implying with McGreevy.
