Good morning.
Imagine a job that requires you to take a year to observe the company, then gives you full control on moves based on your assessments. Heaven.
As we sit on the eve of game 100, I believe, we can see some trends. No longer early.
Pitching. A very decent assortment of young arms moving forward. I think McG and Pallante stick, but Pallante is what NCAA basketball would call as - last man in. He’s dangling. His future in STL depends on his next ten starts.
Doyle. How quick. 2027?
Infield. I keep Donovan at second. GG caliber, league leading hitter. You trade him, you won’t get his play in return. Some players you just don’t trade. He’s one.
Winn. Keeper. When he grows up more, shots to right center will become common. Think Edgar.
Third. JJ nothing better. GG power bat at the corner.
First. Several can play it. Not a point of contention except for lack of power.
Catchers- minors.
Outfield. Scott stays. When he grows, his bat will play for average. Defense is second to none.
Left and right. A mess. This is where Bloom needs to excel. Corner outfield. If that includes Walker fine, but he too is hanging by the short hairs.
What does he do. Bloom. One league level Ace. One thumper in corner outfield spot. One up and coming pitcher- Doyle?
I think other than the NTC, several will exit stage right both at deadline and off season.
As expected in a scenario like this.
Thoughts
1. Fire The Marmot and entire staff - disgraceful how unprepared the team is to play baseball.
2. Trade Lars The Human Sushi-baar (3 years too late), Herrera (yes, I am right about this as well - he is not who many have been fooled into believing and the time to move him is now, when other organizations may be equally fooled), and Walker.
3. If N/A refuses to be traded again, let him know he is the 26th man on the roster and play him accordingly.
4. Enter 2026 with an outfield of Donovan in LF, Scott in CF (on a short leash), and Burleson in RF - and add a high quality ASG level RH bat to the mix.
5. Gorman, Winn, Wetherholt, Saggese to handle 3B/22/2B.
6. Contreras at 1B.
7. Pages / Pozo return - but being pushed by Crooks (Note: if STL's reported interest in Murphy is real, it might be worth investigating further - I can provide the added perfect analysis later in the thread if requested).
8. Gray, Liberatore, and McGreevy can make up 3 of the 5 rotation spots for 2026, but the team will need to add 2 more arms (one of which could be acquired this month from Miami).
9. Mathews should be ready to take some turns in the #6 rotation spot and Doyle should be on track for some time in 2027.
Bottom line.
The team is ridiculously easy to fix.
I could do so in less than 30 days - as could anyone who understands this game.
All that is required is the intelligence and the will.
Mo possesses neither.
We shall see if Bloom does.
The changes you outlined won't cut it Mel.

Which if they don't want to spend may be all that can be done.

If I didn’t mention them, then I figure they can move. I simply for got about Libby and IH as I got fixated on defense positions.
You are correct. Libby McG Pallante Doyle
Herrera DH
Donovan Winn Scott.
Young cornerstones.
I'm not sold on Scott and his .640 OPS. Based on fWAR, he's the 3rd best defensive CFer, but the 4th worst hitter.

Pretty well thought out BDog. Agree with most, especially the need of a big bat, preferably in the OF. (One could argue get one for 3B - perhaps a Eugenio Suarez on a short term deal, and put J.J. at 2nd with Donnie in LF).
Agree on the pitching.
I think a rotation of Gray, Liberatore, McGreevy, amd Pallante/Mathews will be good.....But need an ACE!!! Go get one Bloom!!!!
I think a defense of
LF - Donovan
CF - Scott
RF - Walker/New Addition
C - Crooks/Pages
1B - Contreras/Burleson
2B - Wetherholt
SS - Winn
3B - Suarez
DH - Herrera
would be just fine.
We are going to have to spend some $$$ on the pieces we don't have to ever get back to contention. Needs to be a 200M payroll (or slightly under) plus keep developing the young guys.
Say what you want, but that isn't unreasonable.

The "let's see what we have" isn't going so well.
Maybe it just revealed that they have a lot of the same players, supplemental
players that they do need, just not 26 of them.
Bloom is in a good spot. Comparatively, Bloom will look like he has a plan even
IF it's not in stone. MO, in his later decisions, unless it was a "have to" change preferred
subtle change over anything approaching big.
Oli needs to go period. He is allowing, IMO, lower effort and just may never
get a good feel for managing and or leading.
All trades should focus on pitching or power this trade deadline. Even if the return is
a couple seasons away. There aren't any of the 13 position players that shouldn't be in the
that possibility of a trade piece. As you suggested a few weeks ago with a Tucker add
the lineup with an addition or two could change drastically.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a little of Church and Baez soon versus Hampson or Fermin.
As of today I don't lock on to any of them including Winn and Herrera. I would tell
all of Contreras, Arenado, and Pages, that they don't get most starts anymore.

Wetherholt's arm is questionable for 3B, so I've got Donovan there for now.
Donovan (L) 3B
Wetherholt (L) 2B
Herrera (R) LF/DH
Contreras (R) 1B
Burleson (L) DH/LF
Noot/Baez (L,R) RF
Winn (R) SS
Pages or Pozo/Crooks or Bernal C
Scott (L) CF
SP's: Gray, Libs, McGreevy, Pallante, Mathews, Doyle, Roby
I also think Bloom is a good position. IF Wetherholt progresses into a star player, the other cost controlled talent can blend in well and allow the Cards lots of financial flex to add talent where needed. I think they can contend in 2026 for at least a playoff spot. Baez potentially has plus power, but who knows if he produces at the show in 2026. I would want to add a solid SP guy before the 2026 season.

I am going to be that guy and finish your last sentence for you: "It's more let's hope the young guys continue to improve" so we can then sell them off like Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Tampa Bay or Oakland or Cincinnati and go cheap like we always wanted to. Screw the fans, if they don't like it.

Are you ignoring the Arenado situation? If he is still here no room for JJ. If JJ is ready I’m trading Winn. Might do regardless of NA. You are stuck with Gorman to plug in at third. Not ideal. Winn could and should get a high return. Could be part of the outfield solution by trading him for young stud.

Priority #1. Agreement. It really has to be step #1. Let the new manager decide if he keeps anyone. Jay may be a keeper.
Moving from Oli more important than some trade mentioned.
2. Mostly agree. Late doesn't matter much. Can't go back and they weren't buying anyway. Herrera without a D position
loses complete value, IMO, so if he can't 1B, bye.
3. Agreement. Not #26 but a platoon at least. Add WC to that.
4. I'd try and keep BD on the infield if possible and IF they are going to keep. Need at least some SLG out there
and getting only one additional spot to receive the SLG might produce small change.
5. Maybe, It's where IF a trade happens that helps as early as 2026, it comes from here.
6. He should be shopped
7. Either are 50 game catchers or rinse and repeat.
8. and 9. It's always about the pitching. Surprising it always available. Just have to choose
wisely, a crystal ball would help. It's also available at every trade deadline as we've often
seen the "hired gun" get moved.

IMO, It is a situation as long as it's allowed to be. Would NA be happy in Houston today IF told he wasn't going
to be the everyday 3B in St. Louis? MO allowed NA more control over the situation than he could have had.
Again 100% opinion. Winn, maybe, today he's a 8 or 9 hitter IF he never can leadoff. JJ might profile better
since 8 and 9 hitters are abundant.

That team won't win squat again in 2026.
It's a continued rebuild, that's about it.
Which if they don't want to spend may be all that can be done.
I don't see a lot of light in your tunnel.
It's more let's hope the young guys continue to improve.
Real coaching and leadership.
RH hitting middle order all-star quality outfielder.
3 rotation upgrades (2 + McGreevy).
Remove the fool's gold of Lars The Human Sushi-baar, Herrera, and Walker as a means to achieve acquiring the needs listed above.
That creates a contender.
Would take me less than 30 days to achieve.

To me, it's simple.
Many executives when taking over in any business including sports fires their upper management (manager in baseball) as soon as they take over so they can start their new vision.
If Bloom does that right away, I will know he really has control of the organization and great moves are coming.
If for some reason that doesn't happen quickly, I will wonder how much power he really does has going down the line.
