The reason why Milwaukee continues to strive is they have the b*lls to make tough decision.

They correctly move on from a favorite like Adames at the right time.

It is the right time for the Cardinals to explore trading Donovan. You have a natural replacement who's floor appears to be Donovan and a much higher ceiling.

Donovan would seemingly fetch the best return yet the Cardinals marketing machine has turned him into Chase Utley. Nothing against Donovan. It different circumstance you love to have him on your team. Under these circumstance he is your most valuable asset and can be easily replaced by Weatherholdt.

Donovan + Helsley to Philly for Painter.

Since 2017, the Brewers have displaced the Cardinals as the intelligent small market team embarrassing the Cubs. The Cards have been just a little better than the Cubs but the Brewers have been much better.

Unfortunately for them, they have been 1-7 in wild card games so they haven't seen a lot of playoff baseball. IMHO, that is mostly just bad luck but also that they don't have the budget to deal for big contract rentals for next to nothing in July like the big markets can do.

Most Central teams have had bad playoff records for the last 8 rounds of the playoffs.

8-14 MIL
10-18 CLE
4-11 STL
3-8 MIN
4-9 CHC
0-2 CIN
0-0 PIT
2-5 CHW
4-3 DET
3-3 KCR

MO wouldn’t know how to make a correct timely baseball decision even if you threaten to burn all his bow ties and pink shorts……
The lack or motivation, decisiveness, competitiveness, foresight, is on levels never seen in pro sports. Perhaps the old Football Cardinals ::crazya::
