Herrera could end up in the outfield, too. Herrera and Burleson might be OK, offensively, as corner outfielders, production-wise. I would hope Herrera could be at least average, defensively in LF.

This is exactly right.
If STL is serious about Herrera becoming an outfielder, Walker is expendable.
Mootbaar is as well.
Donovan and Burleson have proven more than adequate and could rotate through LF and other available roles for each.
Which, in turn, frees up infield PA's for Gorman, Saggese, and (next year) Wetherholt) - particularly when N/A is traded again.

Wasn't he starting to hit before the appendicitis? What's the gold up with him getting back from rehab?

The cardinals are likely not making any major investment in the MLB roster until after the lockout, so might as well keep playing Walker, just in case

He will get intermittent play time the rest of the year I would reckon. This team is not built for the playoffs, and does not have the common sense to just fall off the cliff to get a good pick again next year to really set themselves up for some good future teams. Next year, unless he just magically transforms in the off season and come out in ST with a whole new approach tearing the cover off the ball, he will be in AAA. he will stay there until they have to do something with him, or he just overwhelms the system, thereby earning his way back to the MLB team. If Walker (and Gorman) don't make improvements, then move on.

They cost nothing, let it play out under Bloom.

None of us know how he is accepting coaching at this point but he is running out of time in this organization. Maybe some other organization could motivate him to make the changes he needs to make to be successful. If he can't turn it around by the trade deadline, it might be good to see if the Cardinals could trade him for some ???????? (Maybe a pack of baseball cards.)

Fabrege’ eggs spoil over time. The Cardinals have a long history of holding onto them too long. If he is still with the team at the end of the season, I think Bloom moves him.
Walker still has value. If the right offer comes, do it.

Nootbar has lost his shine, and the book is out in him. Feel bad for him-likable guy and all- but there’s no crying in baseball. Expendable.

Did Mozeliak become inept? Or was he always inept and it was masked by TLR, Pujols, Molina, Wainwright, Holliday, Beltran, Berkman, etc for several seasons?

No, not yet. I wish we hadn't have handled him the way we have, but we can't change things. I'm going to assume that others in this thread are correct about his options, so if that's the case, this is how I'd handle him.

I bring him up the rest of this year and make him compete for a starting spot on the team next spring, or just straight up start him in AAA next year, depending on how the rest of this year goes.

My thoughts exactly Ronnie. It just makes the most sense. Too little trade value to ship him out at this point.
