The St. Louis Cardinals traded Braden Looper, along with Armando Almanza and Pablo Ozuna, to the Florida Marlins for Edgar Renteria. That's ALL we gave up for Renteria? Didn't realize what a heist this turned out to be

Yes in the end it looks like a steal. At the time Ozuna was the #8 prospect in baseball, Looper was a 3rd overall pick in 1996 and was a top 25 prospect in baseball, and Almanza was coming off a season with a 3.16 ERA in 59 appearances in AA and AAA and 91 K’s in 68 IP.

In other words it would be like dealing Wetherholt, Liam Doyle (when we can deal him), and Andre Granillo for a Jackson Holliday type of deal?

Shows that trading unproven prospects for proven players/stars with years of control can often pay off.
