I like that instead of drafting a guy that is basically a fully formed pitcher and knowing exactly what he's going to be when (if) he reaches MLB, they took some guys that have some amazing stuff right now, or specific characteristics that they're looking for, and they're confident enough that they will be able to develop them more into something that they already are.

Yesss. It seemed clear that they were drafting with an eye on carrying traits / elite tools.

Mozeliak drafted a recent Cy Young winner and the ace of a NL championship team.

Did trading Betts make Boston better? Either Bloom has balls or he doesn't. Stand up for your conviction. In one breath you say owners should be far away from baseball operations and in the other breath you defend Bloom saying "What can he do if owners want a player traded?" You can't have it both ways. Sure, it might have cost him his job but he lost that anyway.

No, trading Betts at a discount in order to offload David Price’s contract did not make Boston better. No one would suggest that it did or was intended to. And trading Betts didn’t cost Bloom his job. It was the first thing he was tasked with doing.

Secondly, I said owners aren’t running the draft.

I never said or insinuated that they should be or are far away from baseball operations.

So, is it safe to say Randy Flores has nothing to do with who gets drafted? It has been Mo and now Bloom this whole time? Maybe having the fifth pick was the real differentiator.

Because no matter how many times he took KC to the playoffs they just couldn't get past the Yankees. He came to Busch and Augustus game him a dual job as GM and Manager. The rest is history.
