Yes it does happen. You just need to find a talent/franchise mismatch.

Re: Saggese .594 OPS
When will one of the hyped minor leaguers for the Cards ever show up at the MLB level?
Carlson, Gorman, Walker, Noot, Saggesse, etc. It makes me worry about Mathews, Roby, Baez and now JJ and Doyle.
So far, Donny, Herrera, and Burly, to a lesser extent, have been the only ones. Jury is out on Winn, but his defense is phenomenal at a key position.

Re: Saggese .594 OPS
don't forget - his ops was over .800 when he came back so ... he has been even worse than .594 since coming back
Re: Saggese .594 OPS
Same as Fermin, Baker, Siani, Pozo, and frankly Pages. Any of them might have a couple big hits off a struggling reliever in a small sample size, but over time they are not going to contribute any significant WAR.rockondlouie wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 08:54 am Some in here got mad when I said he's J.A.G.
And that's exactly what he is, last guy on the bench utility player w/little to no upside.

Can I point out Garcia was suspended 80 games for steroids? Alcantara had 1 Cy Young season and is aways off. Aroz isn't special. He got arrested for hitting his baby mama's husband after trying to kidnap his son in cancun.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 08:58 amYou can only see the stars after a, setting sun.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 16:09 pmOr Goldschmidt, or Arenado, or Stanton, or Ozuna, Yelich, or Kyle Tucker or Juan Soto (twice).RamFan08NY wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 16:06 pm And stars aren't typically traded away......unless their names are Arozarena, Garcia, Alcantara for example.

Re: Saggese .594 OPS
every other team in the division has one. PCA, Hunter Greene, Paul Skenes, Jacob Misiorowski it appears. We have one all star because we have to have one all starCranny wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 16:03 pm“Stars” don’t grow on trees.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 15:57 pm He's not a great defender either. If we do sell anyone this month, we don't need more prospects/suspects who A. won't arrive in the majors for 2 more years from now, and B. still "need more time" once they get here before they can actually contribute at a positive WAR level. This roster and our minors are full of potential JAGs - we need a small handful of stars.

Re: Saggese .594 OPS
I think of Saggese as a Jed Gyorko type. And remember Jed Gyorko had very good numbers in the minors too like Saggese did. If we get a few seasons where he fills in for injured players (3B, a little 2B, some LF) and collects 20 hr 60 rbi, I'd say he's a valuable enough piece.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 16:01 pmI think he will hit eventually, with regular play and needs a position. Unloading Arenado would help some of the young players get more regular playing time. I thought that was the purpose of this season, and it is looking more and more like the season should be dedicated to finding out which young guys will stick, and which ones will fail to pan out. I agree, not a good fielder.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 15:57 pm He's not a great defender either. I'd exclude Pozo (.312 .330 .505 .835), he's got value as a hitter.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 09:39 amSame as Fermin, Baker, Siani, Pozo, and frankly Pages. Not you AZC, there was someone else in here I won't name who kept telling me he'd be the starting second baseman in 2026.AZ_Cardsfan wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 10:38 amIf you meant me I didn't get mad. If he becomes Gyrko, that a valuable piece. He’s 23 years old with 142 career AB. He has hit at every level of minor leagues. Texas League player of the year. He may very well be a jag but let’s give him a chance to prove he’s not before we drop that label on him.imadangman wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 10:36 amI think of Saggese as a Jed Gyorko type. Possibly - but with the rate JJW is climbing the ladder, TS isn't going to have very long to prove before we need to make some roster decisions.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025 10:47 amIf he becomes Gyrko, that a valuable piece.
