What's a bit amazing is having a prospect of this caliber & maturity, that the prospect of him sticking on the top club in the year he is drafted even exists, picked 19th in the first round. That's what you only rarely get even w/ top-5 picks. Some clubs were sleeping on this guy.

Great move. College is filled with temptation. Faster path to NHL for an already (mostly) physically developed young man.

Next year he can start in the AHL at 19. We can have one player. new rule. He can play in NHL that year as call-up if good enough.
This year put up big numbers. Win a memorial cup if you can, qmjhl championship, play in junior tournament.

When I ready about how well he played at the prospects camp and saw video, I thought he might realize how close he is making the Blues. He's going to make the Blues this year. He has as good of a shot as Bolduc had last year.

Funny how every prospect before was slow-walked through the 5-year plan, and the last 2 are being thrown into the sink-or-swim tank (Carbonneau and Mailloux).

Maybe there is a good reason for it, but I smell an Armstrong.

To clarify a couple things relating to the tryout arrangement:

1. 9 games is the maximum, but the team is free to return the player at any point prior.
2. There is no requirement that the player be returned after 9 games, nor is there anything preventing the team from returning the player after 9. However once the 10th game is played, the first year of the ELC is burned.
3. It is 9 games played by the player NOT 9 team games. Meaning the Blues could give him the 9, but stretch it out over, say, 4-6 weeks to keep him around the team and working with the coaches so they can really help him focus on areas of improvement.

Ideally he gets the 9 and Dvo goes to the A for that stretch and forces his way onto the roster in JC's place when he goes back to the Q.

I love David Perron so I have a very high bar for declaring him David Perron because they have different personalities but he is giving me a lot of Perron vibes as far as "I am making this team" and the reason is they have the same unquenchable lust to score goals as soon as possible. If it were a noir and they failed and it tumbled into disarray, this would be their doom, it's kind of in the pride/doom category like Sunset Boulevard or Mulholland Drive. But they can see it in their mind's eye too clearly to shake them of it. Perron had that. Perron was also 19 and a year older. But it is this quality that made me zero in on him from the first deep dive as the player I wanted them to get. You just cannot teach this. You have to have it from inside, from young, as the way you understand yourself, there is no other way.

Carbonneau would be eligible to play in the AHL in 2026-27 regardless of the new rule in the new CBA. He was born in ‘06, has already played 3 seasons in the Q (2025-26 will be his 4th) so he would’ve been AHL eligible the following season regardless.

Also, what temptations is college filled with that playing in the Q isn’t filled with?

Did this guy leapfrog your top five prospects or something?
Do not believe there is one this year. But the COaches and Army and JR said he was an absolute stud in prospect camp. A man amongst Boys.

SO with his size, speed and playing ability i am sure he gets his 9 game look. Besides its a third line winger role. Power forward type which fits him

Interesting talk about the new CBA provision allowing 19-year-old CHL players to play in the AHL starting in 26-27.

So, for JC, could we see a path like this: a 9-game NHL trial, then send him back to junior until after the WJC.

Then next year assign him to the AHL for the rest of the year? This would be a game-changer for development.

You go to college and hook up with a chic who's a legal or business whiz. You play hockey, golf, and retire at 35 to coach your kids' youth teams. Life is good.

Mailloux has 2 full seasons in the AHL already. What are you on exactly?
