140 innings @2B this season. His entire sophomore season in college was at 2B. How much time does he need? Answer: No more time, he can play 2B very well, better than he plays SS, which he plays pretty decently. Extremely gifted athlete, he's fine.

That is why you are the Guru for so many on here. Mr Wonderful. Actually, that info on him playing that many innings at 2B is good to see. Maybe he'll get some work at 2B for Memphis. It plain foolish for him not to.

Why hasn’t Shady “discovered” him yet?
Why haven't you discovered Burleson yet?

The cardinals got a gift when he slipped

he was #1-#2 talent in the draft, the fact he slid, i bet Cardinals wet themselves.

He is playing shortstop.
I just can't understand why the organization doesn't try to groom Wetherholt at 2b or 3B. He ain't going to be the regular SS when he's brought up. Would some of you baseball wizards please enlighten me. Maybe Cornpop, Horseradish or any of you mental giants. Show your stuff.
3B, if NA is traded, or LF.
But why aren't they preparing him for another position while in the minors? It makes absolutely no since considering Winn is so young and good as the regular SS.
Of hes talented, he doesn't need prep for playing either 2b, or LF. Im sure the Carfinals have prospect outfielders who are just that, outfielders or nothing. Can't take the learning process away from them for someone who doesn't need it.

Not every player needs re-teaching to move from SS to 2b, or from infield to outfielders. Players with those abilities are all over the majors.

Even going back to Gorman the reports were he called and asked to learn a new position after Arenado was signed.
So KKorn was drafted in 2018. Nado came over in 2021.

What's your point? Nado wasn't signed, he was traded for

Somehow, someway I'd love to see C. Bloom/R. Cerfolio convert this kid into an OF.

Probably won't happen and he'll takeover 2nd base but it would be nice to have a bat like that (FINALLY!) in the OF.

Herrera-LF
VSII-CF
JJW-RF

Yea, yea never happening but that's a good looking OF if Hererra and JJW hit, VSII plays GG defense and steals 45+ bases.

+1
If he can play a quality SS then 2B is a snap.
Having the range and arm for SS will easily translate.
Only thing he’ll need some work on is making the pivot on the DP.
That can be accomplished in practice working with Winn.

We’re all quite familiar with the bench guy who’s been forced into an expanded role due to injury and poor performance. He’s done admirable but he’s far from the savior you dream about every minute of the day.

If JJ rips up AAA just as thoroughly and quickly as he did AA...do we see him this year? Do they call him up if we're in a wildcard race? Or is it easier/better to do if we're absolutely out of it?
I think he'd really have to force the issue - something like a sustained OPS around 1.000. Not out of the question, just very unlikely. Now, a couple injuries within the parent club and that could be a different discussion beginning in late August or so...

See him in Jupiter in February. Add him to the 40 man only when necessary.

Makes sense.

I'm excited for him, absolutely. But I also hesitate to put the Savior Crown on him. Once bitten, twice shy with Walker. Plus, I'm just not sure JJ is the type of guy who turns a franchise around, you know? He'll be good, but will he be THAT good? Like, actual face of the franchise good? I know this is a dumb metric, but will he be on fantasy baseball magazines in February? Or on ESPN baseball promos?

Hope he remains at SS. That would be awesome.
