I don’t think Adams is a bad GM, I think he’s just limited by ownership in what he can do. A lot of puppet strings in place in that Sabres organization.

Re: Latest Byram Rumor: Price Has Gone Up
He had a career year scoring 38 pts, sitting #3 behind Dahlin and Power. It's highly unlikely he scores so much more to command a much higher AAV in another year. His agent will no doubt advise him to take the most direct path to UFA (a 2 year award) amd forego whatever little extra he could've earned in Y2.zamadoo wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 08:50 amYeah, but if he goes 1 year and has a 70pt season with another 82 games played, his stock goes way up. Then, instead of being tied to this year's value for another season, he can get more next year. He's a UFA in two years either way. I would agree that 2 years on a lower price point makes him more tradeable to contenders and thus could get him out of Buffalo with more ease. That's probably why Buffalo is saying the price is going up - leverage.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 08:45 amHe's not going the 1 year route, that would be quite frankly a bad move. If he goes the 1 year he's still under team control when it ends and we just restart this process next year.zamadoo wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 08:26 amAnother way of looking at it is you're only guaranteed 2 years either way. Byram doesn't have to sign a multi-year deal next offseason if he doesn't like the team he was traded to or they don't offer him the contract he wants.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 08:12 amBecause of that exact reason. He would opt for the 2 year arbitration to get him to UFA. If you were acquiring him after the arbitration hearing the odds of him extending greatly decrease, especially if its too a team he doesn't want to go, and you will have sent assets for a year to a year and half for a player.TAFKAP wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 06:59 amI'm curious as to why that would be. If Bo's camp picks 2 years, he's on a deal until UFA. They can trade him anytime. The way I understand is that Byram's agent is known for taking players to UFA and the noise was he wants to be paid like a #1 with no health issues. I think that if his price for a long term deal reflected his production and health issues, he'd probably be traded. I could be (and probably are) wrong on this.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑08 Jul 2025 23:06 pm Oh ok. So 2 days ago the word was Adams was discouraged at what was being offered for Byram so now the price goes up. Ok…
I mean, Adams is welcome to ask for whatever he wants but he’s unlikely to get it. His asset loses value by the day as they get closer to that arbitration hearing.
If you are trading for him pre-arbitration odds are you are getting him signed first and an extended Byram is worth more.
However, his arb number looks to be ~4.6M, so it might be in his best interest (in his and his agent's opinions) to either get traded now or just take the 1 year route. If he's truly looking for twice that number then all teams are going to just wait for arbitration to settle and then go for it. That said, a team looking to win now might pick him up at a lower $ average just thinking the 1-2 seasons.
He goes with 2 it takes him to UFA and no matter what Buffalo does he's essentially done with them. The 2 years would further force the trade so that they don't lose him for nothing.

Same. Talk about a long suffering fan base. And think about some of the amazing players they’ve had come and go throughout the years. It’s one thing to say you haven’t ever won the Cup, but it’s another thing to have had the sort of longterm futility the Sabres have managed to achieve. Would love to see them win it one of these days but holy moly - seems absolutely impossible at this point in time.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 07:15 amI feel so bad for Sabres fans. It has been one clueless GM after another. Despite having a lot of great, young talent, they just can’t get over the hump and now young guys are bailing out. Blues fans should be thankful…..Army has made some mistakes, but overall, the Blues organization is top notch.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 07:08 am This guy was traded for middle 6 center 2 years ago. Price tag is down and he wants out of Buffalo. This is the type of deal right up Army’s alley. Adam’s will fold eventually
