Because it’s kind of true. With the 3 WC spots, there’s too many teams that are “in the hunt” enough to not deal their good talent. And the teams that aren’t in contention are so bad that they don’t have much talent to give. Except for maybe the Orioles and they are likely not going to be trading a Gunnar Henderson or anything like that.
And in the Cardinals position, they have enough depth and “solid” players that what we really lack is a star. Getting another “solid” player isn’t going to put us over the top.

Sell any Pending FA and some of the DH bats of Gorman Walker Hererra and Burelson to add a legit MOtO RH corner OF bat. And high velo pitching depth. Wetherholt will be starring 2B next year and Donovan to OF. Adding a left RH bat means not enough room for 4 DH only players

How 'bout getting rid of Donny too and getting 2 RH bats for the outfield ?

I just looked at the top ten outfield prospects and they all hit left handed except for one switch hitter. It appears there is a dearth of rh outfield power bats which is why the Cards need to hang on to Walker. Best bet would try Herrera in left field.
