Stealing bases is a skill. Masyn Winn doesn’t possess that skill set yet. If he wants to be more successful stealing bases, he needs to take the time to learn the nuances of stealing a base. He has the physical tools but not the skills. It’s not a huge deal but it can increase his value.

With Saggese the Cardinals can give Winn a day off since Saggese has played SS.

He stole 75 (out of 85 attempts) in 2 minor league seasons. He said in Spring training:
"I want to take 30-40 (steals) this year" per John Denton. Something has changed.
When he jogged to 1B a few days ago and we were told Oli told him to do it, he must have nagging injuries. Since the Cards saw fit to not actually have a back[up SS, Winn plays every game. Given his small frame, that is going to take its toll on him and it appears to have done so. I less worried about him stealing bags than wearing down and being unable to play well overall. His bat is heating up and the Cards have a good one in Winn. If he can steal bags in the future great. But, it does not appear to be happening this year.
If Winn isn't capable of stealing bags in his young years, he isn't likely to become a base stealer later on. Wanting to steal bags and knowing how to steal bags are 2 different things. He needs to learn to steal. And honestly, VSII needs to be turned loose every time he is on base. He is being severely underused as well.
