Im generally fine with being somewhat woke but if people demand punishment from completely unintentional slips of tongue when speed reading, then they need to just live in a bubble and never leave the house. Ridiculous.

People slip of tongue a sylabble all the time, it just haopened to be one that was close to a slur word. This is nothing like brennamon clearly and intentionally saying fg capital just cuz he thought he was off air only to find out he wasnt.

With all the things that happen over the years with slipups and with reporters murders being caught on live air among other things, i dont understamd why more news stations dont just do a few minute delay instead of live broadcasts.

No, they definitely shouldn't. That sounds insane.

Take it from an old speaking/acting/announcing pro, sometimes the tongue and teeth just skip a beat. He was getting in a lot of wordage and trying to do it quickly before the first pitch, and the 'L' got slurred over. Happens all the time. That's just a bad word for it to happen with. No intent whatsoever.

Accidents sometimes have consequences. Especially is they hurt someone. This hurt no one, you’re the only one looking foolish.

When I lived in San Diego trying to endure the Padres, their famously malaprop-prone announcer Jerry Coleman was telling his partner Ted Leitner about Brian Giles, the compact Padres slugger with short arms and legs:

Very well said. This is the risk of broadcasting into a live mic. There are veteran announcers who will tell you if that happens, just keep going; let the listener question his own ears: 'Did I just hear what I think I did?'. If you go back and correct it, you're confirming your slip and the listener's shock.

There will be people trying to make this into a Thom Brennaman moment...which it's clearly not. And Brennaman thought his mic was off, between innings in Kansas City, "the (gay slur) capital of....". That's half the fault of the engineer. Remember, Ken Wilson was doing a pregame promo at Shea Stadium when he dropped a clear f-bomb...which the producer forgot (declined?) to edit out, so it aired.

Had that engineer wanted Wilson fired, all he had to do is look back at the key moment in the Andy Griffith movie "A Face In the Crowd", when a live mic was deliberately left on after fade-out to show the radio world what a first-class @-hole the popular star was. Paddy Chayefsky wrote that great script with America's beloved radio/TV icon Arthur Godfrey (ask your grandparents) in mind.

If you listen on satellite, you hear all sorts of things during commercial breaks, when the wizard's curtain is pulled back.

The best advice I ever got at Broadcast Center was to always assume any mic nearby is hot*** and every camera is running***; and drop all profanity from your personal life away from the studio, because if something unexpectedly happens in the studio, your habits will come to the forefront...and ruin your career. Fortunately, thanks to KPLR's staff announcer Brad Harrison's advice that day to me at BC, I never had such an "oops" moment in more than 2,000 hours of live radio and dozens of hours of live TV.
