Just a viable bat on a team that isn't exactly loaded with them.
I wouldn’t say “nobody” many see him as a good role player or potential every day player with defensive limitations and good bat.

On the other hand… the short memory ones gloating on this thread, expect a line at the altar of Burly begging forgiveness for ever doubting. And we’re all supposedly now hiding and cowering in fear.
I always thought he was going to hit enough but finding a position would be difficult but he plays a pretty good 1B.

He'd have to be a consistent over .800 plus OPS To ever be considered a regular in the OF.

Plays a pretty mean 1B. Considering his severe regression in last year's 2nd half, the team might want to explore trades for him now while his value is high again. If he establishes a year-to-year pattern of regression, every other team will view him as fool's gold. If they don't already.

Future All Star, maybe?
You started the “Burly is a Star” threads in early 2022. He was terrible in 2022 and 2023, and mediocre in 2024. So now you can say he’s hitting very well but he’s still the slowest guy on the team and horrible defensively, so let’s calm down.
"You started the “Burly is a Star” threads in early 2022". Could ole' Shady have been correct? As wisely said, "better late than never". LOL

Burleson's and Herrera have emerged as really productive bats.

But I keep locking up on DH only players that struggle defensively in the field.

Herrera is on my trade bubble. Burleson was and could be back on it. And it's not because I don't like them. It's just about roster construction.

I love Nado and I root for emergence of Walker and Gorman. as I root for Burly and Herrera. But some combination of these position players are on the bubble moving forward.

Would love for Nado and WC to have a long playoff run with the Cardinals this year before Bloom has to bring an axe.

Emotions and logic collide.

His rate stats are better this year, but last year he had 2 months with 6+ HRs and 20+ RBI. June so far is his best this season with 4 HRs and 14 RBIs so far this month.

Last year he had 18 RBI entering June, this year he had 16. Last year he had 7 HR and 20 RBI in June, this year he has 4 and 14.

I wonder if Burleson struck out 25% to 30% of the time if the modern stat guys would love him like they love contreras ?

The modern stat guys would love him if he had a career .810 OPS like Contreras. Burleson’s is .728.

In mid July last year Burleson had an .824 OPS. He finished with a .735 OPS, which is his career best to this point.

"But I keep locking up on DH only players that struggle defensively in the field". Burly is a really good defensive first baseman. He could start at 1B for some teams.

Contreras' K rate hasn't been good. On the other hand. One of the reasons I've been so supportive of Burleson is his bat to ball skill.
