The article is (bleep). It says nothing about who we should get back for nootbaar, which should be the entire point of a trade.ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 18:24 pm First the Nootbaar story ..

Which is exactly the scenario I advised last off-season.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 19:46 pm I wouldn't trade Donovan, but Noot may get a nice return. Gorman could play 2B and Donovan could move right into LF.

Donovan is attractive and a good fit…but as another pointed out, the H system is weak
They have some promising young pitching, but with Framber walking this winter, they want to hold on to them
Good luck with Donovan…..he’s an attractive chip

The author is dreaming about Donovan. Young, still under team control, very good player. He is the kind of player you build around, not the guy you trade away for prospects. He is what you want a prospect to become.
I don't see that happening.

Spot on. Donovan should be a centerpiece you build around. Does nothing but hit and willing to play anywhere. Exactly the kind of guy you want mentoring Wetherholt and others.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 21:17 pm The author is dreaming about Donovan. Young, still under team control, very good player. Erase Donovan from the trade speculation. They want a LH bat then add Burly to the conversation with Noot.
Re: Rumor out there of Nootbaar to Astros ..also Donovan
I saw a Astro podcast talk about a deal with Cards involving a left hand bat plus pitching to Astros for Cam Smith. Possibly including Arenado in a bigger deal. Didn’t offer much more detail. Again podcaster but Astros need a lh bat desperately.
Smith would be a good pickup as a rh hitting player that can play outfield and third base. Just 22 and hasn’t developed the power yet but has the size at 6’3” so not a little guy. Just drafted last year from college but holding his own in majors.

No way I deal Donovan, I extend him by buying out his ARB years + two years of FA.
I was a huge Noot supporter, duped by his terrific metrics but I'm now on the "deal him" side of the debate too.

Why deal either? But, especially Donovan...
There is a hope and a prayer that the Cards make the postseason, but it's still unlikely. They are also not primed for a WS run. This is a transition year, and it's going great, all things considered.
That being said, they must be focused on the future. Trading Noot and/or Donovan must be about getting a giant haul in return. I don't see that happening.
If they move the guys on expiring contracts, essentially punting away the 2025 season, I would understand that. Competing in 2025 isn't the #1 priority from a GM perspective. Do the best you can today, but 2025 is about long-term vision.

Did you click through the links? That's not a rumor it's amateur speculation, based on literally just the writer's imagination.ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 18:24 pm First the Nootbaar story ..

I don’t think Donovan is on devers level.ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 19:41 pmWell, in Boston the fans are very angry about the trade . I would venture to guess that the return for Donovan could be viewed the same way by Cardinal fans.woofy25 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2025 19:27 pmTrading Donovan would hurt but if the cardinals want anything of value in return, they have to part ways with valuable players. His value is at an all time high. It would definitely be a tough pill to swallow. Hopefully the return would make it easier to stomach.
