Don’t understand the Burly hate. He’s hitting .289 with a 757 OPS, with more than his share of at-em balls. Plays decent 1B and more than adequate OF. His bat plays, I’ve always believed in him as a hitter and think he and Donnie could win batting titles one day. What I don’t like are the dumb, unfunny, not really clever but petty, condescending and tiresome nicknames.
I agree with you and I like Burly too. He might not have good numbers vs LH pitching but how may ABs has he had plus the other options the Cards have haven't hit well at all. I call him Burly Man!

I expected the onslaught of benign corrective criticism and statistically it’s mostly legit, but I’m focused more on the now and what’s to come. There have been many ‘flawed and imperfect ballplayers that didn’t fit the idealized superstar profile but just hit. I think Burleson is one of those and his bat is real, bat to ball skills real and he will continue to improve, including against lefties, with ABs. Far more than a bench/depth piece, he’s a hitter. Lots of shots than turn into outs, but that’s baseball.

LOL
Burly does probably get more “negative attention” than he deserves.
I credit that to a CERTAIN poster who promotes and references him daily in repetitive threads.
Burly to me is a platoon bat.
Ok for depth.
Maybe on a team with a properly designed roster but on this team he has been one of our best hitters in the last few weeks and has earned the playing time he gets. I dont like him in RF but with Walker put and Scott hitting nothing we donr have many good choices out there offensively. Too bad the front office doesn't value an effective RH platoon outfielder as an important piece of a roster.
But Burleson does not deserve the negative press he gets on here.
No the criticism is over the top.
Still think it’s because of a certain unpopular poster slobbering over him to an extreme.
Not Burly’s fault!
Give it a rest. You are living in the past. But you aren't alone. I say we all just try to enjoy a fine MLB player.

Fair enough.
But...
If he's all that you say he is...can you then explain his career 98 OPS+? His career 0.8 fWAR? His career .405 SLG%? In 1076 career ABs and he's 26.
Could it be he's just riding a hot streak at this time and will revert to form in a few weeks?

Frenchy, surely you''ll admit that Contreras also goes through his share of hots and colds, too. Please try to be open minded for a change.

Listen....I did NOT respond to you in this thread!
The topic> Burly
The OP began the thread by asking WHY so much Burly hate on the forum???
As others did....I gave an opinion as to WHY?????
Exactly how is that your business???????
As for “giving it a rest”?????? Take your own advice!

Im notna fan of burly but all those.numbers are treading up each year. Meanwhile gorman is barely younger, has more at bats, and barely better career numbers while his numbers are treading the wrong way the last 2 years unlike burly, yet everyone keeps talking about how he could potentially be great while we lnow what burly is from his career numbers already.
Burly i think has pitential as a devent platoon bat. Problem is his value is limited to that of a 1b/dh and a .750ish ops isnt that amazing for those positions but hisnoutfield defense sucks.
But henis an okay player while henisncost controlled. Ones he gets more expensive hes nothing special.

Burly is going to keep improving, as a hitter, like we're seeing now against LHP through his 20's. He's a really good hitter, overall. Marmol knows that.

What about walker? He has improved defensively but I really don't see him as much better than burly. Burleys arm is as good or better and his bat is way better. We would be better served with burley in left and nootbaar in right and finding a center fielder that can hit

1000 Burly's out there? Where the hell are they? He's what, 7th in NL batting?
