Honest question: Is Church a ‘fine CFer,’ as Shady stated? I don’t know and doubt Shady knows. I wish Church the best, but he only has 63 of 255 starts in CF. I don’t know….that tells me he’s not a legit CFer.

Church has been great through about 35 games this year, with a .900 ops. A .943 ops in AA. If the cards demoted Scott to AA today, he would probably have an .825-.860 ops in AA.

If Shady wants to champion Church, fine. But to compare an AA player w an MLBer having a solid season. It’s a little bush league.

The man has come a ways. He participates in others threads, and I think GDT. His writings are clear and concise, transitions well. He doesn’t rag on others till provoked.

His mo is too many threads. Like other non interesting threads why not just ignore them.

Church is a corner outfielder and is typically in Right Field. And RF is where he played in the ML camp this spring.

Church is a nice player and would be a nice player as at least a 4th OF.

I have to admit the other night I was watching Church at bat, and I watch the minor league games in bits and pieces many times a week, I wondered whether Church may be a better option than Lars. Lars makes hard contact but Nathan makes more consistent contact. I think he can hit 20 points higher BA in the Bigs, maybe.

Either that or he will just hang in AAA for the next few years like matt K.

I'm guessing 98% of this board have never seen Church play and that includes Marshall. Marshall will see a box score, then note a guy with three hits, and begin the player's Canton bust. He'll immediately want the player on the Cardinals. Wash, rinse, repeat.

So who knows? Church seems like a middling prospect and as such, I know very little about him.

11th round pick.
Scouting reports rate him with plus speed, more than enough for any of the 3 outfield roles.
3 minor league seasons behind him and now partially into the 4th.
.272/.346/.374/.720
11.%5 K rate suggests elite contact skills and excellent strike zone awareness.
20+ SB each of the past 2 seasons and tracking for the same again.
In 225 outfield games, he has produced 24 assists and 6 DP - which suggests a strong throwing arm.
Just 78 XBH's in 1321 PA's - so not much slug in his game (though this season he did have a very respectable 14 in 129 PA's in Springfield before being promoted to Memphis).
Unfortunately, he is yet another LH bat, and the team has too many already for the available roles.
Shady raises an interesting question in this thread.

In the video clip, a nice play by Church in CF, aggressively charging the ball and throwing the runner out at the plate. By the way, I appreciate the kind words from sikeston bulldog2 and Melville. Two very respectful posters on CT. The forum could use more of their class. There is way too much petulance by too many on CT.
