Aiva Arquette has 18 home runs in 59 games for Oregon State. He's your right-handed hitting power guy, if he's still there at #5. If he's athletic enough to play SS, he's athletic enough to play corner OF.
he's not a power hitter, Cranny.
55/80 power with an aluminum bat. And his competition this season has gone down with Oregon State losing their Pac12 Conference status.
He's had a good career, but not a power hitter.
for comparison....Holliday has 65/80 power ...he's your lone power hitter in the Top 15 or so.
-------------
I wouldn't mind if he's picked by the Cards, but he's not a power hitter...he'll likely hit HR's to some degree...15-20 once he gets to the Majors
MLB.com has him projected to hit 20-25 home runs at the MLB level. They say he has above average power.
55 is above average...50 is average. 15-20 isn't a power bat. I don't see him getting 20-25 HR playing 81 games at Busch Stadium a year.
I'm not going to argue with you...he's a line drive hitter. And that's great....but he's not a Power hitter.....20-30 players hit more HR in College than he did this season
-------
You like him, and that's great....he's had a great career...he's going to have a good career. He'll hit more HR's than Wetherholt, but I only have JJ with 15 HR power personally...that's his ceiling
I'll bow to superior knowledge.

the problem with drafting "power bats", is they usually come with massive slumps and a lot of K's.
Terry Fuller, Tre Fletcher, Elijah Cabell, William Sullivan, Josh Kross, etc, etc....it's always the same.
95-99% don't workout.
+1 guys with power are often high swing and miss guys. Greater chance of them failing than contact, line drive, high average good eye OBP guys. Wetherholt is good example. He is not a power guy and is more likely to succeed.

Yeah it was a fast swing. Can generate more power than Donovan for sure. Donovan is on pace for about 11 or 12 homers. Can you imagine a 3 hole hitter with 11 or 12 homers well that's the Cardinals. I did think Donovan was going to crank it up with a 20+ homer season but it is nice to see him on pace for well over 40 doubles.

Let's scrap the dead pull focus. It's screwed up too many of our hitters. 15 hrs, high average, and lots of doubles works just fine.

We have a terrible ballpark for home runs. It's going to be hard to develop consistent power hitters here.
The ballpark is terrible for fringe power hitters.
For true mashers, the ballpark doesn't or shouldn't matter. Do you think Aaron Judge wouldn't mash in Busch?

Why is our park a bad hitters park. Plenty of heat and buoyancy. Is it the distance to the fences?

Busch Stadium's outfield fences are significantly deeper than the league average.
The fair territory is expansive, meaning that balls that would otherwise be easily hit over the fence can still be caught, making it harder for hitters to get extra-base hits.
While Busch Stadium is not particularly stingy with total hits, it does suppress extra-base hits, particularly doubles and triples. This, combined with the deep outfield, makes it a more difficult park for hitters to get home runs and other extra-base hits.

In today’s world of analytical data, and it’s ease of availability, seems hitters and their agents know this as well, might that stop some from coming here.

Wonder if Brant Brown and the Cardinals minor league development program could help Jace LaViolette. The power-hitting potential is there.
He's not a top 10 draft pick and he won't be there by our second pick

the ball never carries to the gaps. That's why you see Arenado fly out SO MANY times to the warning track in left center. That was his bread and butter in Colorado. I can't even recall how many times i've seen arenado hit one to left center and eye it like it's gone, and it's caught on the track.
