if you gave me $20 the only pitcher i see currently with a remote chance is helsley --- i might rather take the $20 to a neighboring watering hole.

Didn’t pick him as I don’t see him in stl next year and he’s not having that type of year.greyhawk wrote: ↑31 May 2025 17:19 pmif you gave me $20 the only pitcher i see currently with a remote chance is helsley --- i might rather take the $20 to a neighboring watering hole.

No
While they may end up having a some solid #2 caliber starter or two there isn't a dominate CY Young caliber starter in the system.

I agree. We may even have a stud Ace, but still not CYA winner.rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 08:40 am No

I think we might have a solid #2 (Libby) and #3 (McGreevy) but no real #1/ACE (Re: C. Carpenter/A. Wainwright type).sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 08:44 amI agree. We may even have a stud Ace, but still not CYA winner.rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 08:40 am No

I'm not going to even put Q. Mathews, T. Hence, T. Roby etal even in the conversation until they prove it in MLB.

Thanx. I get weary of hearing about the real young who are years away. As you alluded to, we have a young 2/3. Plus you didn’t mention a 4/5 in Pallante.rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 08:52 amI think we might have a solid #2 (Libby) and #3 (McGreevy) but no real #1/ACE (Re: C. Carpenter/A. That’s 60 percent of a solid staff. As the reset dictates, we need two bats and an Ace. Herrera may be one bat. Now this off-season, power bat or Ace. Then compete. 2027. Add the final piece- powerhouse.
I see the Cardinals as a league power starting 2027.

Do the Cardinals currently possess their next CY award winner?
That is impossible to say.
But if that arm is currently in the organization, the best odds are with Gray.
This year.
He is 6-1.
He has a 1.12 WHIP.
76 K's in just 69 innings.
5:1 K/BB rate.
#3 in wins.
Top 10 innings.
Tied for #1 in starts.
Yamamoto, Wheeler, Pivetta, and Ray are also all in the mix.
Is Gray leading?
No.
But is he a realistic potential contender?
Yes.
Which, of course, means he has a better chance right now than anyone else in the organization.

Well you know I'm not sold on Palnnate who's back to getting beat up by RHH'ers.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 08:58 amThanx. I get weary of hearing about the real young who are years away. IF he gets that straightened out again like he did in 2024 (and that should be taking place at Memphis sooner rather than later), then he could be a solid #5 with upside #4 possibility.
the ACE/#1 will be very hard to come by since BDWJr won't ever pay the FA price ($40M AAV) and we don't have the trade chips to ever trade for one (unless Bloom can find a Goldy/NADO situation but the team is dealing a young stud hurler).
And you're on my page BDog, this team needs at least one (if not two) true MOTO power bats (30HR/100 RBI) like they had w/Goldy & NADO before his age related power outage.
Re: Do the Cardinals currently possess their next CY award winner?
I'd say you are most likely correct.Melville wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 09:25 amDo the Cardinals currently possess their next CY award winner?

Nobody here seems to think any of the
young arms have that level of potential.
While they are good, they won't be great.
That's the consensus here anyway.

I'm not familiar with their pitching history, but I do know they didn't win [shirt] with emgovman wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 20:00 pmfor a whike low-payroll Cleveland seemed to prduce themscoutyjones2 wrote: ↑31 May 2025 15:17 pmNo. Like Carp, they need to trade or buy one like most every team![]()
