He’s now 7/20. Solid plan
7/20. I’m not following.
I think that's his success rate. Either way, this post made me laugh. Moving Helsley out of the closer role is the last thing this org would do. Either way, happy mm day dog. You are one of the good guys. Humble dude. I like that. If you are humble, that means you can still learn stuff even if you are old. Plus your posts usually have some component to them that makes the reader think. Keep up the good work.
Why thank you. nice compliment. And back at ya. Yea my claim to relevance is to put a hidden meaning in many posts. I use lyrics because sometimes someone just says it better.

Dude is nails.
Has the attitude and the skill to back it up.
Helsley washed.
Allowing a leadoff double and following it with a HBP to put the go-ahead run on is hardly "nails."
But I give him credit, in very Helseyesque fashion, he mopped up the mess he made and closed it out.
Yes , he did . If the result is no runs allowed , makes no difference if you get them out 1, 2, 3 OR you load up the bases and get the 3rd out.
Only difference is that in latter case, you give thousands of fans AT the game and those watching on TV heart palpitations, AFIB symptoms, high blood pressure, possible strokes , mild heart attacks but other than that no big deal !
Well, statistically, WHIP does matter as you know because although Maton got out of it this time, the odds of being able to do that consistently when allowing runners on will often end up biting you.
Anyway, great to have other options to close out games other than RH. Spreading out the workload thru the grind is necessary. Hopefully Graceffo can keep developing in this role also and the Cards don't have to always depend on RH in a tight one.
That said, I don't know about you, but skipping the drama with a blowout win today would be a nice relief for the fans.

You all still think I am crazy?
After Helsley blew ANOTHER save.
Helsley:
ERA: 3.27
IP: 22
WHIP: 1.5
K/9: 9.41
Maton
ERA: 2.45
IP: 22
WHIP 1.136
K/9: 11.45
For his career Maton has a 4.73 ERA in save situations. Last year it was 5.89, this year it’s 4.50. I’m not sure he’s the guy I would be advocating for that role. I like him where he is right now.

I'd keep Maton on a role he's performing well in with the hope
of selling high on him.
RP's are volatile, Hels could just as easily go on a run.
Luke Weaver being the CL of the NYY says a lot when a top
of the league spender finds a CL in Weaver and the role of a CL.
Not dissing on LW just how that role and who fills it occurs.

That’s the reason I think it would be dumb to sign helsley to an extension they are very unreliable season by season Kelsey has blown 3 saves already he had four all of last season and is lucky he hasn’t blown more. Like you said weaver has become a closer they are easily replaceable no matter what people think. Ryan Franklin was mediocre his entire career and became an all star closer. Cardinals won 2006 and 2011 World Series without the closers they started the season with. Helsley should have been traded in the off season

Helsley- best closer in the NL 2024. Definitely not as sharp as this season. Tough to duplicate that performance.
Maton- sold setup man. Can certainly close if Helsley unavailable.
You- troll and a clown. Don’t know if you’re crazy?
Maybe you should be tested?

They often get replaced is true.
They are also often being looked for.
So I am not sure that I'd say easily

Helsley needs to be traded ASAP while he still has value
Maton would be a suitable replacement
Tried saying the cardinals should have traded him in the offseason. Most people didn’t understand why even though I was clear on the reasons and they’re coming to fruition.
That said, he needs to remain the closer and perform so they can get something for him. Demoting him would be the cardinals degrading his value. If you leave him as closer, at least there’s a chance he performs.
The cardinals must get better at identifying when a players value they’re not retaining is at its highest.
