I have two favorite memories of him. One is a collective memory of all of the RF pop-ups that he ranged back to snag facing the OF in often spectacular fashion. The other is when he stole a base off Yadi while with the Brewers (iirc), then took the base with him as a memento. It was a simultaneously funny and touching thing to do, which imo is probably the most respectful gesture any player has ever made to Yadi on the field.

Sadly for him, his WS pickoff will likely be how he's MOST remembered in STL. lol
How many postseason walk off home runs have been hit in Cardinals history? I can think of 3, and Kolten hit one of them.
I can think of at least 3 famous ones and Kolten’s wasn’t one of them.

Freese 2011 WS Game 6
Edmonds 2004 NLCS game 6
Ozzie “Go Crazy Folks”
Make it 4 in team history:

Wong 2014 NLCS Game 2. The Cardinals would then lose 3 straight in San Francisco to lose the series. Nevertheless, a postseason walk off home run.

I'd completely forgotten about it. I think it's because weren't the Cards up on the Giants 3-1 in that series and for the second time in a row against the Giants ended up losing the series in 7? That's all I remember.

Yeah people don't generally remember game-winning homers in losing series, and I'd actually be surprised if they did.

Losing the 3-1 lead in games was 2012. Kolten's walk off tied the 2014 NLCS at 1-1 before the Cardinals were swept in SF. Final blow was the great Travis Ishikawa hitting a walk off homer against Michael Wacha who hadn't pitched in a month or something. Thanks, Matheny.

Fair point, perhaps, but we remember great performances from the 1968 WS and Albert's bomb off of Lidge in 2005, correct? Both in losing efforts.

What series was it that we pitched Lynn in SF and lost. Should have saved him for next game at home.

My memory is being up 3-1 in games over SF in 2012, Lynn losing to Zito in StL in game 5, including a Lynn throwing error to second base. Zito had the huge contract and had never done anything to deserve it until that night. Ugh.

That walk off NLCS homer was his biggest moment as a Cardinal that's for certain. Kolten was a very slick fielder at 2B, and a decent base stealer (120 out of 158 attempts). He played almost 1200 games in 11 seasons in the BIG LEAGUES.....something most of us can only dream about! Good luck Kolten!!

Lidge bomb wasn't a walkoff, it was famously in Houston there's a train to prove it

I think that homer is more famous not for being a game-winner but for being so massive, hitting the train, Lidge crouching reaction and then subsequently being basically broken after.

Sadly for him, his WS pickoff will likely be how he's MOST remembered in STL. lol
How many postseason walk off home runs have been hit in Cardinals history? I can think of 3, and Kolten hit one of them.
Fair point, perhaps, but we remember great performances from the 1968 WS and Albert's bomb off of Lidge in 2005, correct? Both in losing efforts.
Lidge bomb wasn't a walkoff, it was famously in Houston there's a train to prove it

I think that homer is more famous not for being a game-winner but for being so massive, hitting the train, Lidge crouching reaction and then subsequently being basically broken after.
Don’t forget Pettite’s reaction, too. And the story about how the pilot on their flight after that game roasted Lidge over it, thanks to Brad Ausmus.

“ Lidge remembers the team being "bummed" as their flight to St. Louis took off later that night. Then the pilot delivered a line that seemed surreal at the time.

"We're an hour, half-hour into the flight," Lidge said. "He's like, 'If you look out to your left, you can see whatever, whatever. And if you look out to your right, we can see Albert Pujols' home run still flying by.'"
As it turns out, Astros catcher Brad Ausmus was behind it all—a moment that reinforced Lidge's belief that "Ausmus was going to be a great manager at some point." The quip from the pilot lightened the mood on the flight, and Houston rebounded with a convincing Game 6 victory before falling to the Chicago White Sox in the World Series.“
