And if Walker/Gorman don’t start hitting consistently they need to be sent down and replaced with a more reliable bat.
Put best team on the field…..stop playing development dreams and “contracts”
The central is there for the taking!
Is it? Wait until the other teams get healthy like the Cardinals have been all year and the Cubs add at deadline. Then we can see.
This team needs to make moves to solidify starters and possibly add at deadline instead of throwing in the towel for the season……like they planned to do coming into the year. It’s on BDW/MO
So don’t sell all these pending FA and Aranado that could add to the future for a chance at the last WC? I disagree. The goal is the WS and they need superstars. Adding to a team like this is the recipe to stay in the 12-15th best team in baseball range.
You’re going to trade your vets for prospects if leading the Central at deadline?

Hopefully the pitching holds up. And the runs keep scoring.

Winn, Gorman, and most importantly Herrera have all gone the IL this season. We were missing Herrera for over a month. We've been mostly healthy, but it's not like we haven't been missing arguably our best hitter for a month.

Will the Cubs do that? We'll find out. Maybe we'll run right past them. They have gotten ridiculous performances from scrubs like Carson Kelly and Colin Rea. Not to mention one of their best pitchers, Matthew Boyd, hasn't pitched more than 80 IP since 2019. Only a matter of time before he gets hurt.

I was referring to pitching. Cubs will add and the Brewera are about to get Woodfuff back and have been decimated by SP injuries so far. Both those teams will get significantly better soon or at deadline

So we should know on Friday. It is foolish to discuss it today.

One step at a time with this team.

With that said, they impressed in both Washington and Philly. Now they have another "show me" series with KC. KC has kind of owned them lately. Time to keep the pedal to the floor.

This team has a lot of talent, especially the offense, defense and bullpen.

However, there is a lot of "fluke" going on with the pitching right now:
  • It is absolutely flukish to have had no major pitching injuries this far into the season
  • It is flukish for the bullpen to give up no runs for 23 innings in a row
  • It is flukish for Steven Matz of all people to suddenly do a half convincing Koufax impersonation
  • It is flukish for 60% of the starters to be outperforming their projections
Without all of those elements, or even lacking 1-2 of them, this team is not over .500.

This team is much better than I expected even with Gorman and Walker sucking. OK, on the negative they have not experienced serious injury issues yet and that is how a team is measured over a long season.

But I do love the emergence of Winn, Noot, Donovan, Herrera, Scott. That is a core of a team right there.

What you said is absolute fact so I am not trying to dispute it, but I really felt that if Nootbaar can stay healthy and they continue to lead him off, that gives the Cardinals a massive competitive advantage over other teams. He is one of the best leadoff hitters in the game.
