He also has the highest RISP BA on the team. Yeah I'll take him up with runners in scoring position.

Facts.

Also his walkoff HR. He’ll win some games for us.

His defense is still plus plus.
If he would exhibit some plate discipline with RISP his productivity would rise.
Disappointing to see a veteran with his experience not have a better knowledge of the strike zone.
I get it from Gorman & Walker but not Nolan!

Think Walker's launch angle is bad? Nado is worse.
He's playing great defense but shouldn't be hitting 4th.

This. He's not bad offensively. Still around that 115 wRC+ area. Just not cleanup material when you have those two players in your team. And he provides a ton of value defensively.

You're probably not going to be able to trade him, so may as well make use of him the best you can.

If we take off the red-colored glasses, this is objectively mediocre at 3B and hitting cleanup.
You have to trade him if you can, you just do. Save the money, maybe get a prospect. There’s no point in having him on a reset roster
People keep forgetting, just because this year was officially labeled as the "reset," the retool-on-the-fly started in 2023.

The Pujols/Holliday/Molina/Wainwright era officially ended in 22, although Waino made us suffer one more season. But the Cards have graduated players at every single position since 2023 and many of them are starting to come into their own now.

Admittedly, it's a surprise to some, because so many horrific signings and dead-weight vets (Motter, MCarp, Crawford, TO, DC, Gallegos) did more harm than good. Now that the fat's been trimmed and addition by subtraction is taking place, there's no reason to believe they can't compete this season.

When they try to trade him, they will advertise him as a clean-up hitter, not a #6 hitter.
They dont need to advertise Arenado. I think teams are pretty familiar with him.

The Yankees 3B is out for the season. Snapped his ankle sliding in to home. If the Yanks come calling, and Nado agrees, you gotta listen to the Yanks offer, and then ask for a little more.

Nado won't necessarily be cleanup hitter in the Bronx.

Nice salesmanship ! Give you credit but if I am a GM , if you told me Nado is a clean-up hitter thus worth more than a No.6 hitter , I would say
with a slight chuckle 'OK , if you feel that way fine and then cite his numbers . We are interested in Nado but don't view him as a clean-up hitter.
Would you buy your own argument if you were another GM ? I think not.

Other GM's do this for their living . They know Nado's strengths /weaknesses etc. as well as the Cardinals do . They have a file on him as thick as a cardiologist with his heart patient. They know exactly the type player they are getting INCLUDING his personality , work ethic, effort, how he gets along in the clubhouse .. all the intangibles besides the numbers too.

15 HR, 65 RBI, hitting 255-270
With like a 730-770 OPS

In a weak division, the reset can be over anytime we choose. Compete every year you can because the 2023 DBacks came out of nowhere and won a pennant. Good things can happen for teams that are 75% of the way there and decide to make a couple moves to get better.

Re: Nado - well who would be a better option and make us better than that for 25 and 26? Once we figure that out then we can talk about making it happen. I don't vote for getting worse with Gorman.
Exactly the right mindset. Why all this commitment to tolerating losing in the name of some “reset”. Jargon for low expectations due to lack of direction and not knowing what you had in the first place. If team is in first place at the break, reset good enough, we got younger and winning now, so add and win some more. Should be the goal any chance you get. Life is short. And why subtract an elite defender from MLB-best defense who contributes at the plate? I remember winning with guys like that. Moving him down is fine but breaking this defense (team strength) and putting off winning just seems grossly negligent.

I'll echo what some others have said. At this stage of his career he's no longer a 3 or 4 hole hitter. Better suited to 6 or 7. Still an A+ defender. Unless he starts driving the ball a lot more he's borderline untradeable since he's owed a boatload of $$$ still to the end of his deal. Cards would have to eat a big chunk of it to get him moved.

The last change to the current team is to move nado down and Herrera up.

Fine is not good enough when you have a future hall of famer on your team.
He needs to be great. He hasn't been for a long time.

Lots of stupidity in this thread, but this takes the cake. 5.2 WAR would be top 20 in the league. Bryce Harper had 5.2 WAR last year. Was he just fine too? 5.2 is great, bordering on elite. There are more ways to impact the game outside of hitting homers.

Nado has already won multiple games this year with hitting or defense. The first two games of the Milwaukee series were won thanks to Nado. Even the best players fail 65+ percent of the time at the plate. Need to chill out and appreciate watching what may go down as the best 3B defense the league has ever seen. Trading Nado would be a huge mistake unless the team takes a nosedive.

The best 3B defense the league has ever seen currently or forever. If so, either way it’s Hall level. I’d bat him six in this lineup.

No disagreement from me there. Move him down, Herrera up.
