Think you are confusing the selection ... It's the 5th pick NOT the 5TH ROUND ! :D

Would love to have Holliday or Seth Hernandez. Short of those 2, best athlete available. No sense in picking up a pitcher ranked 8 or 9 with the 5th pick.

I have, arguably, the top 13 or so players in most mocks in the poll. ENJOY!!!.

no info on Holliday and Willits, sorry

Holliday ~ Pedigree and Best Power

Willits ~ Best Hit and Best All Around

Carlson ~ Best Defense....most likely to stick at SS

You think Ethan could pull a little Shaduer Sanders and drop to us?

What if your scouts say the rankings are wrong and the 8th ranked pitcher ends better than the first ranked pitcher?

It does happen...

Maybe we could try to get Matt to start tweeting about how he's not signing with certain teams.

That’s why I let Randy Flores do the picking.

Assuming Holliday is off the board, I am going with LaViolette. I want the guy who can hit 30+ bombs and anchor the middle of the order.

My pick is Aiva Arquette. Move him to an OF corner.

The 8th ranked pitcher may very well be available in the 2nd round. Why not take both?

Why didn't you vote for Arquette if he's your pick? The only reason I ask is Arquette has Zero Votes.

both of you have good points...and they're extremely valid in much different drafts.

There's going to be 2 major runs at the beginning and middle of this draft. College Pitching will be the first run, and it might bring hurlers like Quick (Alabama), Bremner (UCSB), Root (Ark), Kohn (Miss St.), Middleton (Southern Miss), Thompson (Vandy) with it. The 2nd run will be HS SS after Carlson, Willits and Holliday....that 2nd tier SS run will include Cunningham, Parker, Steele, and probably Pierce.

So... your 8th best college arm will likely fall in the 20's in the first round to Competitive Balance A at the worst.

He has legit power upside from outside looking in.
Also 3B vs 1B IMO over the outfield.

Thank you Duce, I went with Arnold. Second choice would Holiday. I know these guys probably won’t be there but it’s who we would like to pick. Always ace potential pitchers but intrigues with Holiday as a 3B as we don’t seem to have a true viable 3B in the pipeline.

I admit and rely on learning from you and other knowledgeable posters. Right now it’s exciting and fun to have the 5th pick as I choose to ignore how we achieved the pick in the first place. :?

From what I read , I like Arquette too. and like you groom him for corner OF . I saw a mock the other day that had him being the 2nd overall pick in the draft . So would not surprise me if he is 'off the board' by the time Cards 5th spot comes up.

If he did reach #5 and Cards select him , they may repeat from last year with JJ pick ... 'we didn't think Arquette would be available at our 5th slot .
We are pleased he was still there just like JJ last year at #7.

What if the 8th ranked guy is your number one guy? Gotta take him because if you don't, someone else might.
Where was Mike Trout ranked? Where did he end up. Gotta trust your scouts and people you pay, as a team, to make these decisions.
