So while those 11 wins were great, the way they were getting the wins was unsustainable.

The 2003 team would be in 1st place the end of June. Wouldn’t last…
Thanks, ecleme. That’s a very intelligent response. Best I’ve seen so far. I’m going to ignore the cheating vs. fair play responses — your response hits the mail on the head. It really DOES matter how you win. If you’re winning with bad defense, poor fundamentals, etc, in pro sports, it will catch up on you.
Thanks, man. In Red’s defense, he wasn’t implying cheating is okay

Oh no, I wasn’t criticizing Red at all. I was just clarifying that I was talking about “quality” of wins rather than legality.

Have a good one !

Anybody care how the Cardinals got some of those wins in the 2006 World Series?

The Tigers committed 8-errors in the five games.

They don't don't care how, they just care how many.

Thanks, brother. I know what you were saying.

I was agreeing w you that the thread got off from the original intention of the op.

My fault for not explaining better.

Not an individual game, no. Sometimes you win ugly. However, ugly baseball doesn’t win consistently. That’s true in any sport. That being said, winning DOES breed confidence. A few ugly wins and the next thing you know, you’re playing like a team that EXPECTS to win rather than a team that HOPES to win or worse, expects to lose. One of the hardest thing for a young pitcher to learn is how to win without your best stuff. Maybe your arm is a little sore. Maybe you’re going through a dead arm stage, but you find a way. Getting back to the OP, how you play matters more than how you win, particularly for an individual game.

Ditto OR

I don't care if comes vs the Dodgers or the Rockies a win counts the same in the standing.

No style points in baseball.
