I feel bad for this kid...
Let's not pretend he's had multiple shots and failed. He's 28 and has had a grand total of 160 ABs spread out over 3 seasons. 34 ABs this season and he has a higher OPS than Burly, Walker, or Gorman.
I'm not saying he's Boog Powell...but he just hasn't really had a legit shot to either succeed or fail in The Show.
This times 10. He will eventually get traded or leave as a free agent and some team will give him the same chance guys like Walker and Gorman have gotten. He certainly can fill the role as an everyday 1st baseman or DH if given the chance to get into a groove. He may only have a 3 or 4 year window of success as a late bloomer, but I predict he will somewhere. A shame our system is so beholden to contracts and manager favorites.
Agree with both of you. And StLMike, Baker's not really a late bloomer: he led the minors in HR two years ago with 33 HR, and had 32 last year, had 26 HR in AA in 2021, when he was 24.
The Cardinal brain trust just decided he wasn't worth giving a chance. Too bad for him he wasn't in the Angels or Pirates or As, etc., organization.

Re: Baker sent down
It’s for the best considering his limited playing time but he did well in the role he was assigned. He was on the team just to
Hit lefties and hit .296 .441 OBP .849OPS against them and hit .333 .500 OBP 1.056 OPS against them coming off the bench so I never really got all the criticism he got he did very well in the role he was on the team to do

the EV's are there, I'm not sure the timing and trust in the knee are quite there. A lot of hard hit balls in Memphis, but mostly on the ground. Patience would be prudent amongst fans/CT in his first few games....that being said, he'll probably hit 3 HR's tomorrow and I'll look even more silly than usualAlex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑08 May 2025 08:53 amStrange take. Re: Baker sent down
Send him to the AL where he can DH
The Cardinals haven't figured out the utility of the DH yet.

Re: Baker sent down
Baker should be traded for a reliever or best prospect you can get for him. I would assume this means Herrera will probably DH quite a bit, which is a good thing. IMO

LF, please. (We may need to move our LF to RF)Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:22 amOh no doubt. Coming off a bad bone bruise, catching may be difficult and provide an opportunity to aggravate said injury.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:00 am I think that is a signal that Herrera will be used primarily as a DH. Both Pages and Pozo deserve to be playing at this level. Besides Pages has shown the Cards he can even fill in at 2B when necessary. LOL!
Herrera was born to either DH or play LF. We don't need (at this time) a left fielder!

Re: Baker sent down
Imagine having your future rest in the hands of that great baseball man, Moe Mozeliak. He is enamored with very large first basemen and has had a procession of them over the last 8-10 years. NONE OF THEM HAVE STUCK. Yet, that didn’t stop him from getting more. What an effing moron.

Re: Baker sent down
Totally agree with this. Would have liked to see him get at least a 10 game run just to see.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...

But, yet being in the pennant race nearly every year Mo has been here. Imagine that.Rojo Johnson wrote: ↑08 May 2025 10:28 am Imagine having your future rest in the hands of that great baseball man, Moe Mozeliak. I agree, too. Yet, Moe is too clueless to give him a chance.hullie wrote: ↑08 May 2025 10:30 amTotally agree with this. Would have liked to see him get at least a 10 game run just to see.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...

Re: Baker sent down
He’s been available in the past in the Rule V. No takers. After some impressive power numbers in AAA, you’d think he’d be a hot commodity. Again, no takers. He’s another Ivan Cruz.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...

Re: Baker sent down
In all fairness players in this position should be traded if possible. I just don’t see room for him with Cards and he deserves a fair shot.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...

Re: Baker sent down
He has a career .338 SLG%, it’s .324 this year. I get it that he hasn’t had all that many PAs, but when he’s had the chance he hasn’t done enough. At this point the only thing he does well in the MLB is walk a lot. He should be traded for a reliever/pitcher if they could get one for him.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...
