But my understanding is that he mostly played C for Bakersfield in the AHL. It might be a worthwhile experiment in camp but I don’t think they can simply assume he can do it and plan their summer around that. IMO, they need to still try to find a viable 2C this summer and assume Holloway will stick at C. But then wouldn’t be opposed to trying Hollway at C in camp a bit to see how he does. Maybe he exceeds at it, maybe it’s a bust and they move him back to wing. No harm no foul. Or maybe he’s ok at it and becomes a secondary option at C when there’s injuries.
I've asked this question multiple times myself and it's not gotten much attention but to one of your points I just don't see Holloway failing at much of anything.

Give him a shot and save the prospects from a trade for center.
The problem is you can’t give him a shot until training camp and really the early part of the season. Then if it doesn’t work, you have to attempt a mid-season trade. Much fewer options are likely to be available then.

David was a right wing converted into a center. I would def give it a try move schenn to wing
David was a center UNTIL he got to the NHL, started at RW for a few seasons then they moved him back.
