Contreras earns 18M a year.
Certainly not overpaid.
Certainly fairly easily moved.
But not necessary for STL to do so.
He is not part of the problem.
He is, however, part of the solution.
Contreas, Gray, Arenado

Re: Contreas, Gray, Arenado
Nado and Gray are both in decline and are not nearly worth their contracts. Nado has never been a team leader. He’s a great 3B and a replacement level hitter.Baseball Savant wrote: ↑02 May 2025 22:00 pm They all need to go…Serves no purpose for team or them to play for Cardinals in 2025. They are not part of rebuild
They will all waive no-trades
Gray had grit, stuff and command earlier in his career. He has lost a lot of stuff and is now losing command. He’s our best, but not close to a true ace any longer.
I want WillyC in this lineup and on 1B almost every day. He is the heart and soul of this dugout. The Cards would miss him.
Re: Contreas, Gray, Arenado
N/A is owed just 16M in 2026 and 15M in 2027.
This year, he is owed 21M - but STL will pay out about 13M of that when July rolls around.
Leaving a balance of about 8M for this season.
If STL were to eat the balance for this season at that point, he is very easily traded.
His NTC is of no concern.
Simply inform him that he accepts a trade or sits on the bench.
Done.
Mo traded him once already last December - and it will be even easier to do so again.
There is strong evidence N/A regrets refusing to report to Houston and he does not want to make the same mistake again.

He’s not even worth that.Cusecards wrote: ↑03 May 2025 07:16 amLike everyone else I get frustrated at times.Chip Matthews wrote: ↑03 May 2025 00:18 amDo you people read contracts or know what "no trade" clauses are?Joseph-Magrane wrote: ↑02 May 2025 22:58 pm Arenado is right on pace for another 2024
.250, 15 HR 60 RBI type season
Just another 2 years at $60M, just absolutely washed at this point
Arenado isn't $60 million for the next two years. Google his contract.
Fight among yourselves all you want, but don't make false statements.
I'm a long time ticked off Cardinals fan, but stop the lies and misinformation.
Have any of you making these idiotic trade scenarios ever been to a game?
Real life isn't like your video games.
When that happens exaggeration can set in.
Born out of frustration.
And no....I believe the Cards owe Arenado $37M for 2026/2027?
Re: Contreas, Gray, Arenado
I get more frustrated with the breakdowns in fundamentals and mental mistakes than the physical shortcomings.
I like all three guys but when Arenado and Contreras flail at garbage pitches how do you expect the younger guys to react?
