Baltimore has the 30th and 31st comp picks. They need pitching badly. Arizona has the 29th pick they can trade and need a closer.
it's my understanding that Compensation Picks (which the 30th and 31st are), CANNOT be traded. The Competitive Balance picks CAN be traded. Those start at #33.

Ok, didn’t realize that. Still would like to get Waldschmidt. Arizona has Jones as a rh bat that is more of a great defensive outfielder like his dad. I saw Waldschmidt play at Kentucky and was very impressed with him. The guy is a player who is going to be a very good mlb player.

They should aim for bigger targets. The Cardinals have a few really desirable trade targets for a contender filling holes and even a few compelling youngsters that they could consider trading. If they need to, they should put together packages that bring back one higher quality player who is near major league ready in return. Don't accept numerous generic prospects with questionable ceilings. They should trade away twice as many players as they get back in return, but the return should have clear upside.

The trade season is only open for about 10 days from the All-Star game until the end of July. If we are going to make trades I agree that's how it should happen. A contender isn't going to trade anyone on the major league roster that will contribute to a pennant run. If they won't contribute to a pennant run, what are we doing here? I'm just not sure smart teams let go of that upside player anymore at any price until they've played out in the majors. Its more likely we can trade for an established player with a contract that some team would like to get rid of.
