Pallante has pitched more consistently than both Gray and Fedde and he's the first to give us 7 innings...shutout to boot. I'd say he'll be fine as our #3 and may well gravitate to #2 by next year. Those 7 innings were versus the Phillies, one of the 2 best hitting teams we've faced.
BABIP of .182… benefiting from some good fortune, the expected average on his fastball is near .300 but actual is only like .175

Results / outcomes are noisy in small samples.
Small samples are noisy but can be accurate to several other degrees. You’d think in small samples ratios and standard deviations would still show clean correlations.
No pitcher has the ability to suppress average on balls in play to that degree.

If he stays healthy he can be but the cardinals derailed his development with sending him to the bullpen so I think he hits an inning wall at 130+ innings and goes off the rails. It will be next season before he is able to be good for a full season.

Ok. Good input. They will curtail him late in year. Here’s an ethical delima- cards get hot and rule, Pallante gets hot and rules, when do you shut him down.

BABIP was .182 when this discussion was being had.
BABIP is now .285 - right in line with the .286 in 2024 and the .299 for his career. His HR rate has doubled... so even though his groundball rate is steady, hitters are crushing the ball when they're able to lift it.

Batting average and slugging percentage against his fastball and sinker are way up. They're ineffective.

McGreevy should get his spot.

Yea this isn’t optimal. He seems to pitch better at home. He can’t afford walks as he is a pitch to contact, ground ball pitcher. I still see him as a strong number five mid level four.

Multiple posters her say Pallante can be a #3. I'd add that that is his ceiling. More likely a good #4 or #5.

He needs to show that he can get RH hitters out consistently and in key situations. He seems to have solved LH hitters.

He's a valuable piece of a rotation especially with a great defense behind him. Innings eater that keeps you competitive in games. But not front of the rotation or shut down starter that I'd call an Ace.

He hasn't. He's just given up more HR on the road, but Busch is in the bottom quartile for HR in ballpark factors, as well. K/9, BB/9, ERA, WHIP, BA against all worse in 2025 at home.

I'm choking on my April thoughts, after his 2024 rebound, that he could be a "solid #3".

McG has passed him by a lot, should've replaced him weeks ago.

Once again Pallante has fallen victim to RHH'ers (. 298 .365 .497 .862) that he faces over 70% of the time.

He's NOT good enough to be a ML starter (AGAIN).

I'm done w/Pallante, hope Bloom moves on from him.

Ok. Sure had have high hopes. He still may take at a number four. 5-6 IP 3-4 runs. That would work on a competitive team.

Don’t know where I got that notion. Must have been one good start at home.

Yet. He still gives the team a chance- 3/4 runs thru 5/6 innings. On a competitive team that would be fine taking the ball every five days.

To counter- your 1,2, and 3 need to perform.

I am saying at a four or five he is fine. What more can one expect from a four or five. Most 4’s hardly last five innings. This guy goes 5-6 with 3-4 runs. We should be able to attack that.
