Still, never seen a manager consistently [fork] up a pitching staff like Ollie. It is almost an art form at this point.
The comments on here keep getting dumber and dumber. If there is one thing Ollie has been decent at the last year or so it is managing a pitching staff, especially the bullpen. How do you think the team overachieved last year and overcame its terrible hitting? Fedde lived in danger all day, and was very lucky not to be scored on after walking lead off batter inning after inning. I would have taken him out then also. He was almost at 90 pitches and there a lot of stress pitches in that outing. The bullpen did what it needed to do to win. The game should never have gotten to Roycroft. Today the offense let the team down time after time. That is not on Marmol. Please give the irrational Ollie hate a rest!

Frankly, I thought he would/should leave Matz in to finish the game one way or the other. Looking like Roycroft needs to get his stuff together back in AAA, though I don't know who's there that would be better with the MLB team. Also, truly ridiculous decision at 3B to send the runner home when Pham already had the ball in hand. Tough loss, for either team, a real pitchers' duel.

Oli didn’t help today but I can’t totally blame him for the loss.
He should have let Fedde start the 7th imo. Our bullpen isn’t deep enough to pull SP early and win a lot.

But it wasn’t his fault we didn’t score.

Couldn’t leave Matz in longer. He pitched yesterday and pitched 3 plus innings on 4/5.

Saggese poor baserunning in 9th.

Siani shouldn’t have been sent in 10th.

So imo can’t blame all this one on Oli.

Mo, marmot, starting staff, cowpen (only a couple of bulls), holes in the line-up, yeah its not just one person or one thing, its rot throughout...but, marmot loses ALOT more games because of his managing than he wins...that is an easy fix.

I legitimately wonder how many more wins the cardinals would have had over the past few years if literally anyone on this forum was the manager instead of Olli.
So he was at 88 pitches. The next 5 pitchers didn’t allow a run? Try harder. This one’s on the offense.
It's weird isn't it? The weird lengths some posters go thru to make Oli be wrong when he wasn't...
-pulling your starter while throwing a no-hitter at 88 pitches when you KNOW your bp has been suspect - Oli
-continuously putting the worst #2 hitter in MLB at the 2-hole without giving him a single day off or moving him down the lineup to reduce stress/switch things up- Oli
-being the worst #2 hitter in MLB- Long Con
-stopping to observe a collision like some idiot rubbernecking driver- Sagesse, he should owe the team the cost of a ticket
-literally making the dumbest baserunning play you can make at 3rd base w less than 2 outs and going 0 fer the rest of the day- Nado
-sending Sianni, pop, who has cost this team at least 5 games over the last couple of seasons

And the "weirdest" thing on this entire forum is undoutedly you, the one poster who literally, LITERALLY, NEVER posts a single optimistic thing, EVER.

When you keep batting Contreras in the 2nd spot you aren't going to win many. He is striking out over 50% of the time. Does Oli really know what he is doing?

The vast majority of the time it is the players who decide the game.
Coaches/Managers? They are there to:
1) Prepare/instruct prior to playing.
2) Best position/line up the players in a way that gives the team the best chance to compete and win.
3) Once the game starts- make strategic decisions/moves that put your team in the BEST position to win.

Again....players decide most games. But in this being Oli’s 4th season how many games has he actually given this team their best chance to win?
Versus....putting the team in a worse position?

In my lifetime as a Cards Managers go he is “historically” bad!
But at least in “relative” terms he is not as bad as Pop Warner. As a 3B coach he is bad on a level of “biblical” proportions.
There...I said something nice about Oli! He is not as bad as Pop Warner.

Mo and Marmol cannot be gone soon enough. These two analytics nerds are too ignorant to even know their system sucks (donkey). If you are going to manage solely by analytics, at least make sure the system is good. Theirs is (bleep).

Even analytics driven managers bring something extra to the table. Look at Dave Roberts. Yes, he manages by analytics, but he was on winning teams as a player. He leads the clubhouse. He knows what it takes to win and relate.

Look at Joe Maddon. He incorporated analytics, but threw in his own unique quirks.

Our resident pud has none of those qualities. Mo had to sign a bunch of geezers last year to lead the clubhouse because lil oli lacks leadership skill. He just sits in the corner of the dugout looking like a turtle.

Hopefully, Bloom can hire a manager with a lick of sense and true ability. Enough with the (bleep) experience.

Matz already threw an inning and a third yesterday. You weren’t going to get multiple innings out of him today. What so many of you guys don’t understand is that Oli is Bloom’s kind of manager. Very few managers have the type of autonomy some of you remember from 1995. Today’s managers are expected to be facilitators and implementers of collaborative decisions. Things like who pitches when and for how long is not Oli’s alone to decide. Those decisions are made hours before the game by a collaborative group. Remember, a camel is a horse built by a committe.

Agree. I might be spitballin here, but I'm going to say zero offense through 9 innings was a little bit more of a problem than pushing Fedde one more inning. Of your staff pitched 9 shutout innings, then I'd also say the manager made all the right calls.

But don't you understand, to the Cards Talk baseball experts every loss is Marmol's fault, and every win is in spite of his best efforts to lose the game. He only gets credit for bad things.

The way the bullpen has been used so far this year, is any of them going to be available by June? What happens when they go to a 6 man rotation, with one less arm in the pen? But yea, Oli is doing a great job!
