Their only hope is to dump him and hope an organization that knows what they are doing, takes a flyer on him. Then the Mo can bring up a league minimum pitcher and calm the old man's nerves about putting out more $$

Re: DFA Mikolas
Unfortunately, Mikolas will force them to react sooner than they would have wanted to promote McGreevy.
Re: DFA Mikolas
Arguably the worst pitcher in baseball? I'm not sure you could get a bucket of balls for him. Or even a couple of balls to fondle. LOL Especially with that contract.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 23:57 pmThey could have maybe traded him for a filler piece, similar level mistake and gotten out of a little of his contract. But after this showing you couldn't give him away. He needed to be gone, but he has a good thing going, due to Mo's pride. So he was always going to invoke the NTC.
Players on the team see if you have a contract you play, no matter how bad your performance is. That has to end.

Re: DFA Mikolas
There is no team taking any portion of his contract. If he were released, I don't know if any team would pick him up for the prorated portion of league minimum. Another case of stubborn ego by the decision makers. They don't reassess, the double down. Yesterday he "ate" 2.2 innings. His ERA is over 11. I don't think even these guys will allow him to continue at that pace all year. History says they will be slow to act. If he gets his ERA down to 6.00, would that be ok? How about the 5.35 he had last year, can we hope for that? What are we doing here?
Re: DFA Mikolas
Yeah I'm not convinced he would make any other MLB roster at this point.

Even before yesterday, any GM who traded for him would likely face pitchforks the next day. As Patrick Corbin was languishing in the Rangers AAA system before an MLB injury had him called up a couple days ago, Mikolas was/is the worst starter in MLB.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 23:57 pmThey could have maybe traded him for a filler piece, similar level mistake and gotten out of a little of his contract. This is just one of those (many) head scratchers from the FO that no one can understand.
Re: DFA Mikolas
Let's start a go fund me to DFA MM. We just need to raise 18 million minus the prorated 2 starts he made. What's 33/35 of 18 million? according to AI it's 33/35 of 18 million is approximately 16,971,429.

Re: DFA Mikolas
Too many wasted roster spots on this team, Mikolas being right at the top of the list.
If this truly is the year to find out about the "kids", then why waste a roster spot on an over-the-hill starter, a 28 yr career minor leaguer and a glove only CF'er (when you have a "kid" who can play defense almost as well while hitting and stealing bases better)?
More Mo poor roster management, he can't be gone soon enough (and take your lacky Manager w/you).

Re: DFA Mikolas
I'm looking at it this way. He had a really good year in 2018, a solid year in 2019, a very solid year in 2022 and a passable year in 2023. He has been an innings eater. Maybe a team would take a flyer on him if the risk was low. You know like basically pay 90% of his contract. MO could employ a league minimum pitcher in his place and save Grandpa 1M.CCard wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 08:34 amArguably the worst pitcher in baseball? After yesterday's debacle, it confirms what many think. This looks more like a continued decline rather than a bounceback possibility.

Re: DFA Mikolas
There is small increment of improvement:
None of the usual moose drool -
" We like this team"
" Exit velocity shows true performance" (paraphrasing in the infamous Matt Carp FO defense).
- Lack of Mikolasss statement of excrement & fans and being the leader of the pitching staff.
The obvious of DFA Mikolass will never happen because it is obvious.

The only way Mikolas gets DFA'ed is if Grandpa has had enough of him.ilcubuffs wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 16:16 pm There is small increment of improvement:

Re: DFA Mikolas
I have no problem with DFAing him, but in his defense, he has been (going off of an aging memory) the type of pitcher who can pitch well one start & suck the next. You don't need them in the rotation going down the stretch, but he's had one decent one & one awful one. I personally think he's done, but he has been the kind of pitcher who can game plan & fine tune for a start or two.
