What was the intent of this move- strategy? Bring in better defensive catcher, better stick, rest for Herrera, what. That’s the issue. I'm assuming that in Oli's mind it was for better defense. But, you don't substitute your 5th hitter that early in a close ballgame to play for marginally better defense. Also, you can't go the whole season subbing out your catcher for defense in the bottom 3rd innings all the time. Similarly, you can't go all season moving your CF to RF late in the game. These moves have negative impacts on your young starters and could hinder development. Good write. It also plays of still playing players to make everybody happy. If you make an outfield replacement late, and catcher, same game, you basically get every position player in the game. This may have been the reason. Of all positions the catcher should know the count. The scoreboard had the count wrong. The pitcher also thought it was K3 if you noticed.
