Sponsors PAY for those giveaways, not the Cardinals.

Sponsors know this is (potentially) going to be a down season attendance wise, not going to blow part of their Marketing budget only to see crowds of 15,000 or less on their promo nights!

BDWJr/Mo have really screwed the pooch and this is yet another example of their ineptness.

Sounds like fake news. The Cardinals have 65 giveaway dates listed on their website, plus a couple post game concerts and a few kids run the bases games. Just counting the giveaways and ignoring the other promotions, 65 out of 81 home games is well over half.

Those promotional items they give away are mostly cheap stuff, but I know a few people who actually buy a ticket to go to games to get these things, and then go home by the 3rd inning. I know the org views these giveaway trinkets as effective ways to get folks thru the turnstiles, but I would rather see them invest all the money spent on that stuff to improve the roster. That would attract a different kind of fan, who care more about team performance than free bobbleheads.

Prices have increased for everything so families will have to choose what family events they will attend. A losing team + very few promotions = lowest attendance numbers that have not been seen since the 1970s.
Perhaps you’re not aware of this but the Cardinals don’t pay for most promotions.
Various companies pay for them and get the advertising of “Budweiser seat cushion” or “KFC cooler night” or whatever it is.

Sponsors saw less butts in seats last year, and many may have decided to spend their advertising dollars elsewhere.

You explained the situation better than I did.

I always thought most of the costs were sponsored paid.

Remember (and Cranny can certainly reinforce this idea) a penny saved is a penny earned. Plus, it’s tax free!

What I love are Mo's "Mystery Nights" where he cleans out the leftover promos they couldn't give away.

Hope to see everyone at Grateful Dead Night on May 2 vs. the Mets. Grateful Dead Night surpassed Star Wars Night a couple years ago as the most popular Theme Night at the Cardinals game. On 4-20-18, the late great Bill Walton wrote on twitter "What are we doing wrong in California?!" after seeing the large crowd gathered to see Jake's Leg play on the Budweiser Terrace in right field.

Great point about the sponsors not wanting to spend the money on promotions. When like you said fans don’t want to even come to games. This downfall continues for the Cardinals , where does it end , new ownership seems to be the most logical choice , if the owners are not making money , sell the team.
