Yea, I wouldn't have batted an eye if they started him at high A this season.

I believe in JJ, and I think he'll rise to the challenge, but the Cardinals have had problems being a bit too aggressive with their higher level prospects in the past. We've talked about the problems with developing our young players, so maybe letting them get some experience at each leval isn't the worst thing.

But JJ definitely seems like a guy that is up to this kind of task. I hope so.

Sure. I just disagree with the placement. Let him go rake at high-A for a minute to prove he’s ready. It hurts nothing.

This is excellent news on Wetherholt and goes along with what several scouts predicted .. Opening at Palm Beach Low A , they said if JJ looked good (which he did ) that they would probably skip him over HighA - Peoria in Year 2 and move him right to AA -Springfield. The pitching at AA is so much better than Peoria and they want him to face better pitchers at this point. (Knocking around High A guys doesn't do much for development.

His hitting skills is above that level currently . He needs a better challenge facing pitchers with a better arsenal of breaking pitches, etc.

and bench time at mlb is not how you develop players. With Burly that is 4 outfielders that need to play with Siani riding pine or late defense.

some of the youngest most talented are young up and comers in AA with some AAA slots full of older 4A players. Not uncommon.

He thinks college was his minor leagues and he should have started the season in the majors lol

Well, it typically doesn't work that way. Of course, there are a few exceptions.

It's not sad...it extremely typical and it's called "development". Let's make sure this kid is ready. Let's try to do this the right way.
