Dang, was hoping you'd be in and take your best friend Jose Altuve too earlyBrock #20 wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 13:21 pm This is a great idea, we can find out who really knows rheir baseball and who does not. There is a little luck involved because of injuries, but other than that, it would be a great way to see who really knows what they are talking about on this forum. I think everybody on this forum should have to play, so we can see who really is baseball knowledgeable and who just runs their mouth. But I'm not interested in a 6X6.
I TOLD you we should make it 5x5.An Old Friend wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 13:30 pmDang, was hoping you'd be in and take your best friend Jose Altuve too earlyBrock #20 wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 13:21 pm This is a great idea, we can find out who really knows rheir baseball and who does not. Yes, there will be a commissioner (or co-commissioners)…but there won’t be any major gimmicks or tweaks.
Three general OFs.SamTheMan wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 15:14 pmI'm in....Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 15:10 pmYes, there will be a commissioner (or co-commissioners)…but there won’t be any major gimmicks or tweaks.
At the moment, here is how it looks -
6 pitching categories -
Wins
Saves
Ks
ERA
WHIP
Quality Starts
6 hitting categories -
Runs
Home Runs
Stolen Bases
AVG
RBI
OPS
Roster spots - one per regular offense position, plus three utility spots. Pitching will have 5 starters, and 5 spots as general ‘P’. These spots are intended for relievers, but you may use them for starters. Note - there will be an innings limit, so though you could start 10 SP and dominate some categories early on, you’ll be out of luck when the IP run out.
I’m structuring the pitching this way to make the league relatively low-maintenance. You can set your 5 starters and 5 relievers w/o having to make daily moves to stay competitive.
Is it LF, CF, & RF or just any three OF's?
Hah! I hadn’t thought about that yet.
Nothing is really ‘nullified’, though I do understand your perspective. I wanted to keep the traditional 5x5 cats. IMO the addition of OPS effectively lightens the importance of SB, and gives more credit to players who might hit for a low average but consistently get on base. SLG gives credit to players who compile doubles, but may not crush a bunch of HR.Brock #20 wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 16:14 pm Just my opinion, because I have played this game for over 40 years using various formats. When you add OBP it just takes away from Batting average, and batting average just takes away from OBP, all you are doing is nullifying one for the other. OPS is already baked in with the other offensive categories!
You just said it, by adding OPS you are taking away the importance of steals and giving double credit for HR, and that is not good. However, I would rather see a category for QS than for W's because there is some major luck involved in getting W's. Many times a SP will give some one a great QS but not get the win. Getting the W, is relying on a SP offence and not his sole performance.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 16:39 pmNothing is really ‘nullified’, though I do understand your perspective. I believe it to be good. SB is a PITA category, and adding OPS does not give “double credit” for HRs. It’s gives credit for OPS, OBP & SLG combined… you could also say it gives credit for walks, doubles and well… almost everything.Brock #20 wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 17:00 pmYou just said it, by adding OPS you are taking away the importance of steals and giving double credit for HR, and that is not good. Do as you wish, but OPS does NOT include anything about SB, so you have now added to the importance of HR, thus making HR more valuble that SB. Have fun but count me out. There is a reason why standard leagues are 5X5, because each of the 5 offensive categories are EQUALLY important as the others.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 17:29 pmI believe it to be good. I originally wanted to make this a standard 5x5, to keep it simple and avoid conversations like this. If all those who choose to participate and register their team collectively decide to revert back to 5x5 standard, before draft day - I will abide.
For now it’s 6x6, and the categories are chosen.
Thank you for your input. I’ll take that into consideration.Brock #20 wrote: ↑29 Feb 2024 18:29 pmDo as you wish, but OPS does NOT include anything about SB, so you have now added to the importance of HR, thus making HR more valuble that SB.
