Re: The Bear
I think it's mainly because of the quantity of comedic moments throughout the show (Richie and Fak's interactions are absurdly silly), and the average episode length (first season episodes averaged 30 minutes each, second season episodes averaged 36 minutes each, overall average around 33 minutes each).
Re: The Bear
Ms. Emmy probably didn't make that determination - showrunner Chris Storer most likely did (or FX, or Hulu). Emmy category consideration is generally determined by the show producers' preference, though the Television Academy reserves the right to override their preference if they think the natural choice is obvious. A show like The Bear could plausibly be categorized either way, as it does have a lot more comedic moments than the typical drama nominee. Orange is the New Black is one of the few shows that was placed in one category one year, and then the other category the next year. Similarly, actors get to choose their own designation when submitting for the acting awards, either as leads or supporting actors. Ayo Edebiri submitted her first season performance in the supporting actress category, though it's nearly certain she'll submit for lead actress for season two.
Re: The Bear
Caught this photo on reddit of some of the cast out and about in Chicago, and I put spoiler tags on for a specific reason, so be advised that looking at the picture may or may not be revealing a notable detail about the S3 cast...

Molly Gordon is in the picture next to Jeremy Allen White - she appeared last season as Claire Bear, and the last episode left the fate of her new relationship with Carmy in limbo - I'm guessing her appearance in this photo indicates she is going to be back on the show this season. Some fans of the Beardom will not be pleased by this.
Jamie Lee Curtis has also been spotted on set during filming, so I guess Donna is also gonna be back.

Last season will be in consideration for this year's Emmy Awards, and a few things are certain: the show will win Outstanding Comedy again (yes, I know it's not really a comedy, but that's the category that it will be nominated in), Jeremy Allen White (Carmy) will win for lead actor again, and Chris Storer will win for both directing and writing again. Ayo Edebiri (Sydney) will move up to lead actress category and will be a strong contender, but might not be a lock, given she'll be competing with Jean Smart of Hacks for the award, and Smart has already won it the last two years. Edebiri will easily beat out all the other nominees besides Smart, but it's a definitely a two person race. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richie) will again be nominated (and will likely win) for supporting actor, and two of his co-stars could also get nominated in the category - Lionel Boyce (Marcus) and Oliver Platt (Uncle Jimmy) are both strong contenders for nominations as well. While Edebiri won't be in the supporting actress category this year, it's likely her co-stars Abby Elliott (Natalie) and Liza Colón-Zayas (Tina) will both got nominations. Jamie Lee Curtis (Donna) is probably a lock to win for guest actress in a comedy, and it's likely that both Jon Bernthal and John Mulaney will get nominations for guest actor in a comedy.
Anyway, there's a pretty solid chance that the show will break the record for most Emmy nominations for a comedy in a single season ever, with 24 predicted nominations (30 Rock received 22 nominations in 2009).

Re: The Bear
This show makes me anxious during the restaurant scenes it reminded me of watching Battle of the Bastards in Game of Thrones, very claustrophobic and loud.

Re: The Bear
I've read and heard great things about this series so I have to binge-watch it soon. When it first aired I saw the first 2 episodes, but was turned off by the nonstop torrent of f-bombs. Now that it's found its stride I'll try it again and watch it develop.
Re: The Bear
All of Season 3 is now live on Hulu, as of ten minutes ago.

Re: The Bear
I watched the first 3 episodes last night. Episode 1 was beautiful, everything about it, the visuals especially, but just the journey it takes you on. I will watch it again, I enjoyed it that much. Episode 2 was back to its frantic craziness, and if you have anxiety, make sure you have some form of "downer" near you.
Episode 3 was good, but I feel the first two episodes were stronger IMO.
I love this show. One of, if not THE BEST, show on television.

Re: The Bear
We get to meet Sammy Fak this season, one of the nine zillion Fak siblings we hear about all the time, and it is the cameo of all cameos (don't look at the spoiler if you haven't made it that far)... it is not a person that you would have ever imagined in your wildest dreams would be one of the numerous famous guest stars on this show.

I haven't made it this far yet, but apparently E6 "Napkins" is a Tina-centric episode and it was directed by... Ayo Edebiri (Sydney).FrankTheTank wrote: ↑27 Jun 2024 09:59 am I watched the first 3 episodes last night. Re: The Bear
S3E1 is up there with the best of the series. It's just a brilliant season opener that serves simultaneously as one of the most artful recaps I've ever seen as well as a compelling deepening of the protagonist's motivations. Really excited for the rest of the season.
Re: The Bear
The season premiere almost felt like a completely different show, in a good way. To be clear, I don't think they could run the whole season like that, or even more than one episode per season in that style, but the aesthetic was an absolutely perfect way to recap where we've been and to fill in a lot of blanks about Carmy's backstory, and in a show known for it's incredible dialogue, the episode stood up among the series' best with virtually no dialogue.
The whole episode was scored by Trent Reznor, beautifully.

Re: The Bear
How is the show a comedy? It isn't funny. I am not saying its bad but its intense and dramatic, not funny. Its like calling Game of Thrones a comedy and that show had some actual funny moments.Targaryen wrote: ↑25 May 2024 16:41 pmDisclaimer: The video above is hosted on Youtube, and has not be reviewed by the staff of the Post-Dispatch.
