Chief is being the diplomat claiming the Leafs absolutely want to resign Marner and Tavares. Methinks he really wants Schenn in the offseason.
These Leafs are a sign of the times; give it a minute and they'll all forget about how poorly they played in game five and seven and definitely will keep the boy band together. IF it was me, I'd move out Nylander and Reilly; I don't know how Matthews would fare without Marner; and if Tavares is fine with the 2 slash 3 center roll (at a discount) you re-up him. Grab Bennett and Marchand with the savings.

If you are Toronto and you extend Marner and Tavares, Bennett and Marchand should be nowhere on your radar.
They are deficient on defense and goaltending.
Frankly I don't bring back Tavares and use his money on defense.

I see them re-upping Marner and Tavares; and trading Nylander to St. Louis for Kyrou (Steen approves; and Berube somehow approves)..... Or better yet, its a three-way Nylander to STL Kyrou to BUF Byram to TOR.
...and signing Marchand for 2yrs. Marchand gets to play on his favourite team growing up.
...they're D wasn't bad (overall) but could have use a lot more scoring from the backend (a real P.P. QB- Byram?). Losing Stolarz, to a concussion, hurt them a lot more than their D did. IMO

Byrum would be a solid get for them, but they really need guys who can play defense. Tanev was a good step in that direction, but he's more a #4-6 so they would still have a need even with Byrum.
Stolarz was fine, but he's not a massive difference maker, they need a goaltender who can steal games and he simply isn't it. Marner and Tavares make 2 of those 3 impossible.
