Teams lefty hitters will not be thrilled to face Cardinals pitchers. The righty reserves and bench bats will be .. Woohoo ! I get to bat in this series ! lolAce wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:44 amQuinn Mathews, Cooper Hjerpe & Ixan Henderson all say hello.ramfandan wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:38 amWatching vid on Clarke love seeing his 'crossfire ' motion and how he can throw it outside low and left hitter was swinging at air .
This team could have quite the lefty pitchers in a couple years ... Libby, Doyle, and Clarke With Doyle and Clark very high velocity types

It's a 20M savings. We were on the hook for the 35M salary and then the 5M buyout. Now we pay 20M, save 20M.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:49 amThat's a net $15M savings, sure hope Dewitt let's Bloom reinvest it!82birds wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:25 am20MM per MLBTRrockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:23 amDitto
We don't know the final cash BDWJr sent but could be as much as $15M(?) in payroll savings that he could let Bloom re-invest!

So Gray's $35/2025 salary now cost the Cardinals only $20M equaling a $15M payroll savings if they didn't have to pay for the buyout option.
I'm just pumped that Bloom jumped the market, moved Gray quickly and now can concentrate on NADO, Donovan, ect...![]()

Bloom is making his market not waiting around for MO’s “Developing Market”![]()
Now it's "Bloom" that rhymes with "ZOOM"!
Now on to NADO/Donovan

I was just referring to the 2026 payroll savings of $15M but total it's a $20M savings.
C'mon Mr Dewitt, let Bloom reinvest that in FA's or acquiring ML players!

Ha. I just wrote much the same on the thread with the BA analysis. They weren’t going to get much so why not take risks for hi-po guys?mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 10:58 am All-in-all, it sounds like the Cardinals get the kind of ML-ready, higher floor/if lower ceiling prospect (Fitts) that I thought they would get for Gray, and a somewhat lower floor/higher ceiling prospect (Clarke) who is maybe a couple of years away.
Hopefully the Cardinals pitcher development system is ready to help Clarke develop a third pitch and get him the weapons he needs to be a middle-to-front of rotation SP in the majors by the end of 2027/ST 2028.
I like it overall.

Re: Sonny Gray to the Redsox
Bloom, who was head of baseball operations for the Red Sox before being fired, now is relying on the Red Sox to jump-start his rebuild.
He made it clear that instead of just dumping payroll, they needed prospects in return, and were willing to pay about half of the remainder of Gray’s contract.

He addressed this. Said he is close to the end of his career and wants one more chance to win. He was more open to other locations than when he signed his last deal. He was hoping the Cardinals would be the last team but it didnt work out.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 10:39 amYes. Between hometown discounts and geographical locations, hard to distinguish which of the two is a greater myth.

Clarke looks the part.

Might have to send a pitching prospect back along with BD to get it done.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:24 amI'd add pieces - Romero, Henderson, Pages/Crooks - something - to get that done if need be.Banner29 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:22 amI would prefer McLean as well. Just the kind of prospect I was hoping for when Bloom dealt Gray.
Now lets get another one, maybe even a major league starter w/years of control left, for Donny.
I’d be preferable to a major league starter with years of control.

Clarke 60 K 27 walks in 38 IP in 2025
Bloom said he wants hard throwers. Clarke will have to get the walks down if he wants to be more than a 1 inning pitcher in MLB.

Re: Sonny Gray to the Redsox
You have to look at as $20M saved, b/c had they kept Gray they'd be on the hook for the additional $5M. They are clearly saving $20M, $15M for 2026 and $5M for 2027.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:32 amFrom what I know the option transfers to the acquiring team.craviduce wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 11:24 amaround $20M if I'm reading it correctly. Nope, a 26 yo bad pitcher, an injury risk who hasn't surpassed A ball, and a PTBNL.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2025 10:34 am Bet. High level third base prospect or left fielder. Any takers.
