Soo many questions about this team.
Man.....will Broberg and Holloway even want to re-sign here?
This is so bad.
And do we want them to re-sign here? I'm far from convinced either is worth keeping.
I was thinking the same thing. They are a part of this mess that is the start of the 2025-25 season.
To be fair, Holloway looked really nice for a 50 game stretch so I can see the value with him, he's got something but far from an untouchable. Broberg I'm just not seeing it. I'd move either of these guys in a heartbeat if the right deal is there.
The start of this season has definitely tempered some of those expectations about needing to give them monster extensions.
I think they’re still competent players, but we’ll see how the rest of this year goes. If Broberg ends up as ‘just’ a 2nd pair defenseman that’s still perfectly decent. If Holloway ends up ‘just’ a Middle 6 winger it’s the same. We’ve seen both be better than that. The whole team is a mess so it’s hard for me to spend too much energy dogging on any one player right now.

Blues are in a bad place. Monty needs to be careful with the yelling and emotions, this is a fragile battered team right now that knows it has lost key weapons and is losing hope. Every mistake is magnified. You do not want to make them dread coming to the rink, you want to keep them focused and working on getting better.
If they are truly that fragile, then these aren’t the right players. I’d do the opposite. Lean hard on them and see who responds. Those are the guys you keep and go to battle with. The others, you find a way to move on over time. Too many soft (mentally and physically) players on this team right now.

There is nothing wrong with Broberg. Holloway has lost the plus-edge off his explosive take no prisoners drive and tenacity, he's clearly still bothered physically and/or mentally. No telling how long it will take him to fully recover.

Jesus Christ, safe space much? They need to get their (bleep) handed to them and get dogged day in and day out until someone steps up and gives a [shirt].

Is there a reason the Blues refuse to use Snuggerud in the “Ovechkin position” on the powerplay? We have no real strategy with our powerplay, just a bunch of guys throwing the puck around the zone. It would at least be nice to let Snuggerud rip one timers.
Said the same thing last night. And for the love of God does Monty know he can use two Dmen on the PP? I’m at the game watching them continuing to throw out 9, 70 and 71 over the boards on a PP while Broberg is stapled to the bench. Heck, could Maillux be any worse than those 3? And This team’s obsession with Sunny is just mind boggling. He’s a 12th-14th forward in the NHL and here he is Mr Everything. Power play. PK. 6 on 5. Just pure lunacy. Walker is double the hockey player that Sunny currently is.

Worse than the wasted money is the wasted ice time with Joseph, Texier, and Sunny. Army hasn't had a good day since he signed Broberg and Holloway.

The easiest thing to do is rant and rave. I won't deny there's a time and place to get in players' faces but Monty can't be any more frustrated than the players are. Virtually all of these guys are deeply seasoned vets. They are starting to do things way out of character, Parayko fumbling around like a clown, Walker leaving a man open in the crease to chase a contested puck behind the net, it goes on and on. The individual mistakes are magnified right now. Maybe sit Walker out a game. Can't sit guys like Parayko or Schenn. Don't want to sit Holloway but he's not right.
Schenn and Sunny were 6 out of 23 on faceoffs last night. One of Schenn's clean losses to Larkin directly led to a goal. Yelling won't fix that.
