Wetherholt played 20 games at second base this season. He could be the next superstar or he could be the next Caglianone.
It has always worked out for us in the past.
And enough of your fact stuff, too.
Geez....

Be that as it may, it's entirely possible that if Donovan is still here next season, he might be the second best second baseman on the team. Not a sure thing, but not far-fetched either.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 15:59 pmWetherholt played 20 games at second base this season. Wetherholt made 12 errors in 105 games at SS, 2b and 3b. Donovan made 4 errors in 100 games at 2b. I wouldn't be surprised if Arenado is traded and 3b becomes open with Wetherholt getting a look in spring training there but I doubt he will replace Donovan at 2B if Donovan is still on the team.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 18:53 pmBe that as it may, it's entirely possible that if Donovan is still here next season, he might be the second best second baseman on the team. Agree. I think it will all fall on if Donovan is traded or not. Arenado is going to be gone. If Donovan is traded JJ will probably play second and we we will probably be stuck watching Gorman suck at the plate and at third for another season. If they keep Donovan he will play Second Gorman will most likely will be traded and JJ will play thirdScotchMIrish wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 20:21 pmWetherholt made 12 errors in 105 games at SS, 2b and 3b. True also but I doubt he spends money a short term 3b solution I think most of that will go to the rotation and maybe a platoon outfield bat. My hope is he trades for a third base prospect kind of a Stottlemyer for tatis sr type tradeecleme22 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 20:40 pmThere’s always the chance bloom grabs a short term 3b.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2025 20:28 pmAgree. Re: Bloom will listen to interest for Donovan and Noot
As I previously perfectly analyzed, Nootbaar is the LH bat who should be first to be traded.
Followed by Donovan.
Then Burleson.
Then Gorman.
That is the reality and there is no need to once again break down the factors which led to this accurate calculation.
That said, timing is as important as the order.
The CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION (unless there is simply an offer so good that it would amount to nothing less than extortion) is to trade Nootbaar and Walker this off-season - and THEN shop Donovan in July of next year AFTER seeing Wetherholt successfully begin his MLB career.
Donovan must be retained as an insurance policy (at multiple positions) and his value will be just as high or higher in July as it is now if he merely comes close to repeating his 2025 output.

Cranny, what year do you think it would be acceptable to hope for more than a body to put in a Cards uniform? I'd like to see who they are going to trade him for.
He needs to remain in the utility role until showing a lot more than what he has to this point.
In 347 PA's he has a meager 21 XBH's, 3 HR, 30 runs, 29 RBI - that is nowhere close to adequate at 3B.
Might he become a really good player?
Yep.
But he is a long, long way from showing enough upside to be anything more than the 25th or 26th man on the roster.
