I think he'll hit better....but the speed and defense are definitely comparable...and that's propelled Volpe to an 8 WAR in three seasons...that's not too shabby.
bat wise? His bat stays in the zone, he's not going to K alot out of the zone...or at least he shouldn't, the chase rate is remarkably low from both sides of the plate?
That should help soothe your doubts, imo.
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
That is what I have seen too as to his ceiling. The only knock on him is his power but he is only 17 and at 6’1 is going to grow more and get stronger. His bat to ball skill is great. Think of him as a possible bigger and stronger version of Wetherholt.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:16 amBased on what? Goodness - Cranny, sometimes you are the type yelling at the clouds. Could he be that - sure, but Willits by many has been noted as a top 4 and even top 1 talent. Kozma had nowhere near that hype.Cranny wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:48 amPete KozmaAdam2 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:41 amDuce, if you've seen much of Willits, do you have a current comp?craviduce wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 10:19 am busy week for mocks. especially with the way they both keep the bat in the zone....good comparison there with Wetherholt.kyace wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:30 amThat is what I have seen too as to his ceiling. I've started to come around on Doyle a bit, seems like he has some of that Chris Carpenter fire that the team could use
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
I see it the opposite, I view him as a poor version of Wetherholt. He has less power than Wetherholt and always will.kyace wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:30 amThat is what I have seen too as to his ceiling. I respect the guys who are on "Wednesdays with Walton" every week. They were comparing the top 3 high school shortstops in the draft 2 days ago. They said that Willits is a tallish skinny guy that probably won't develop much power. That comment reminded me of Pete Kozma. All field and no hit.Othawhitemeat wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 11:31 amGoodness - Cranny, sometimes you are the type yelling at the clouds. that doesn't mean he won't hit...."hit" and "power" are two totally different things.Cranny wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 13:17 pmI respect the guys who are on "Wednesdays with Walton" every week. Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
Brian Kenny , MLB baseball analyst, discussed success rates of players selected 1-1 in the draft for the past 60 years.
It's about a 50/50 shot that even the very first pick becomes a top notch MLB player.
So even when you can pick any guy in the country (HS or college ) you wish, you still aren't certain the kid is going to be very special . Flip a coin !
I won't go overboard on the No. 5 pick for the Cardinals but hoping they 'hit ' on a kid to be a special player for our franchise long term.
