Braves were worse than us last year, but they are going to try to wait it out/spend it out without cutting payroll down to nothing.
Re: Braves sign Chris Sale to $27M one-year extension
They still have several key players to build around. Acuna, Riley, Olson Harris II, Albies, Baldwin,, Sale and Strider. They seem to be in the latter half of this window. It makes sense for them to try and fine tune the roster to see if they can get another deep playoff run with this group, or if they can reconfigure it into another winning window.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 11:11 amBraves were worse than us last year, but they are going to try to wait it out/spend it out without cutting payroll down to nothing.

True, but ATL also had absolutely terrible luck with injuries last year.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 11:11 amBraves were worse than us last year, but they are going to try to wait it out/spend it out without cutting payroll down to nothing.

It will play out like it did in St Louis. It will work until it doesn't and then they will bite the bullet.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 11:11 amBraves were worse than us last year, but they are going to try to wait it out/spend it out without cutting payroll down to nothing.

Nor should he currently make

their issue was injuries. you can rebound from injuries far more quickly than trying to re-vamp an entire organizationCarp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 11:11 amBraves were worse than us last year, but they are going to try to wait it out/spend it out without cutting payroll down to nothing.

"True, but ATL also had absolutely terrible luck with injuries last year."
People could have said similar things about STL after 2023 if they wanted to take this perspective. We still had 2 HOFers coming off MVP seasons the prior year, lots of injuries and players playing hurt during 2023, Walker coming off a halfway Successful rookie campaign with plans to build around him. Plenty of potential opportunities to bounce back.
Difference is maybe, Braves fired their manager despite "injuries not being his fault".

It was an amiable parting. Snitker wanted to get off the road after 50 years.Braves fired their manager

Or maybe he realized when Gregg Allman died that the road doesn't go on forever. I recall an article where he said he'd get a real kick out of seeing some high school ball on his own time. He'll still have duties with the Braves.

If he can develop better control, then we may have our TOTR starter!ramfandan wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 15:18 pmSame here , Rock !rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026 11:22 am I've seen more than one article comping L. Doyle to a young C. Sale......................fingers crossed.![]()
