1982-67 homeruns. This year?
Good morning.
1982 team was 92-70. They had 67 homeruns and 200 stolen bases.
Three players, Silent George, Keith, and Porter had 50 of them, led by Hendricks 19.
The franchise record is 10 in 1906. Most think 1982 as the barometer.
For comparison, the 78 Cubs hit 72 homeruns, and went 79-83.
Question- does this team challenge the “record.”

If Walker and Gorman stay healthy, maybe they get 35 collectively.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 05:30 am Good morning.

Herrera and Burly healthy is probably 40.
JJ could add 15.
So, I think 67 in '82 is safe for now.

I don't see them challenging the 67 HRs.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 05:30 am Good morning.

Let's take a look at last year's HR stats and go from there .
Team had 148 HR's
They lost the following : Contreras 20, Arenado 12, Donovan 10 so that's 42 HR's .. 148 - 42= 106
Then from 106 what will the following players add in 2026 ?
Wetherholt ? (Note: In 2025, he hit 17 HR's in minors in 109 games .. what will that translate into a longer MLB season but at major league pitching level .. will let you pick your own number how many HR's he gets in 2026
Gorman (hit 14 last year ) ?
Walker ( 6 last year in 111 games )
Scott 5
Burlly 18
So with players lost , the Cardinals sit at 106 HR's Add on what you think for 2026 . Also figure a Josua Baez may play some in 2026 ? What HR's might he contribute
Note" The Pirates had the fewest HR's in 2025 with 117
So no way does this year's team challenge the record IMO.... not even close

Those are strong numbers. 35 from Walker and Gorman would be quite the fetch. Then 40 more.Bully4you wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 06:07 amIf Walker and Gorman stay healthy, maybe they get 35 collectively.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 05:30 am Good morning.

That’s 100 projection as a team. If they hit for your numbers, we will, with our Defense, be a reasonable team to watch.

Gorman should be able to give you 20-25 if healthy and gets the playing time.
If Walker gets 400 AB's he better hit at least 15.
JJ 15 seems possible.
Herrera and Burly can do 35-40 if they stay healthy.
It all depends on health.
Re: 1982-67 homeruns. This year?
Well , the Cardinals were 2nd fewest team HR's in 2025 in the MLB so relative to the entire league pretty poor. Those thinking 1982 though are way off IMO.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 06:13 amGood morning. Nice write. More than likely. I was thinking with so much angst about us having no power, I’d show how low it can go.ramfandan wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 06:21 amWell , the Cardinals were 2nd fewest team HR's in 2025 in the MLB so relative to the entire league pretty poor. Your point reference lowest in league last year does draw a noteworthy inclusion.

I'll go out on a limb and say Herzog was a better manager than Marmol or probably any manager in today's analytics game.

I suspect if you plugged that 1982 team into any 2026 computer model there would be no world series championship. Speed, pitching and the best infield defense I've ever seen and probably the best in the history of the game.ramfandan wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 06:54 amYou are quite the risk taker .ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 06:43 am I'll go out on a limb and say Herzog was a better manager than Marmol or probably any manager in today's analytics game.![]()

Not to mention that WS was awesome. True. Herzog understood baseball. If not for the mess with the brewery taking over the team we would have had Herzog for much longer and probably more WS teams.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 07:03 amNot to mention that WS was awesome. Re: 1982-67 homeruns. This year?
I expect the HR totals this season will exceed 67. There are a number of IFS, of course. The biggest IF is what will Gorman and Walker do? They are going to get major PT this year, so I think they will both hit more bombs than the 20 they did together in '25. I suggest that together they will hit at least 30. Herrera hit 19 in only 107 games last year, and I believe he will hit 25 or so this year. Burleson hit 18 HR last year, and I expect him to improve a bit, so 20 would seem reasonable. So at those expectations, 75 HR from those 4 players would beat the '82 teams' total. Of course Wetherholt may be starting in St. Louis, and he has the potential to easily hit 15-20 HR, given 500 PA or so. Nootbaar has some power, but with his injury history, hard to predict what he will do.
They hit 148 total last year, lost 42 homers from Arenado, Contreras, and Donovan - so even with no improvement from the rest of the roster, that would leave 106 HR for '26. I expect the team to hit at least 125 HR in 2026, which is still a very low total in today's MLB.

Re: 1982-67 homeruns. This year?
Nice roll up. Thank you. Ok follow me here- the 2025 total of 148 was second lowest, and low for MLB standard; where did the 67 home runs fall, references the same comparison?12xu wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 07:09 am I expect the HR totals this season will exceed 67. Re: 1982-67 homeruns. This year?
There were 5 teams in 1982 that hit less than 100 HR, all in the NL. The Cardinals were last, followed by the Astros with 74, the Padres with 81, Reds with 82, and Mets with 97. Those were different times. Not surprising that the lowest AL team HR count was higher, since they already had the DH.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026 07:12 amNice roll up. Thank you.
