Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
I’m not against acquiring Mayo, but he’d have to get at bats mostly at 1B ( which puts Burleson in the OF ) or at DH if Herrera is mostly catching. I’d do Pallante, or Romero if Baltimore would, not both though.

I’m pretty sure he was just teasing to keep you engaged.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 14:15 pm I hear Bloom hinting (teasing?) about perhaps making more moves. Is he serious, or just putting comments out there to keep the fanbase engaged? While it makes for great press and gives "journalists" starving for material something write, or talk about, trades of even modest magnitude seldom get done by any team once spring training begins.
If he is serious, here are two teams that still have needs we match up with and have players that would be helpful to us. I've mentioned both previously.
The Orioles just lost Jackson Holliday for some time with a broken hamate. They also still need pitching depth, both in the rotation and the bullpen. Ken Rosenthal is reporting that they are entertaining trading either Ryan Mountcastle, or Coby Mayo. Offer Thomas Saggese (13.2 BTV) for Mayo (BTV 8.3). Saggese can fill in for Holliday and move around when he comes back. Include a minor league pitcher if it helps. Or, expand the deal and also send them Romero (BTV 6.3) for their Comp A pick (BTV 5) in addition the Mayo-Saggese proposal. It doesn't have to be these exact players, but there is definitely a fit to be had- work it out.
The A's still need starting pitching at any level and have a glut of outfielders. Offer Andre Pallante (BTV 7) and Pete Hansen (BTV 2.3) for OF Colby Thomas. Again, it doesn't have to be exactly these players, but there is some type of fit- work it out.
There you go- 2 RHH. Coby and Colby.

If the player was young (at least had 4 years or control) I would move Matthew’s. Espeically if he fielded a position of need.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 15:01 pmNot being critical, I'm seriously interested in your thought process- why not Mathews?Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 14:57 pmTink, yes. Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
I always thought if they added a RH bat it would be a veteran to help with mentoring the young guys that is a bench player not another younger player. I know that’s not a popular opinion but you can’t have 26 young guys on the roster. Young guys need to play a lot. The bench, imo, should be veterans. Think along the lines of Grichuk.

If Walker shows significant improvement and one of Saggese, Fermin, Ramos or Velasquez grabs some productive starts, we may not need to add anyone.IndCard75 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:19 pm I always thought if they added a RH bat it would be a veteran to help with mentoring the young guys that is a bench player not another younger player. Yea but having a coach instead of vets is like having a grandma and no mom. Still female, but not mom. Same with coaches.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 01:51 amThey have coaches.IndCard75 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2026 20:19 pm I always thought if they added a RH bat it would be a veteran to help with mentoring the young guys that is a bench player not another younger player. Young guys need to play. Putting a young guy as the 25 or 26 guy on the team is stunting their growth. They are better playing full time in AAA. Where I do not see Grich as a player to add. I also do not think playing time is an issue.IndCard75 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 07:27 amYoung guys need to play. They are not a group of players that have a stranglehold hold on positions with Winn and JJ the
exceptions. One has had back and knee issues as a 23 y/o at the demanding position of
SS the other is a rookie. The player on the roster that has shown a
recent ability to play 150 games is only Burleson, that includes the players traded away.
5 games a week is plenty. There's not a 160 game player there.
Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
Give San Fran a call and ask about Luis Matos. He is out of options and I don't think they see him in their long range plans. Could be a bust, but had a very good minor league career. I would be willing to take a flyer on the kid at only 23.
Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
One year deals on the cheap side, only exists for the replacement level player.

Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
It has been years since I have seen much out of the Giants system.
They seem to be on an incredibly bad run.
Matos is his own guy though and may turn the corner. Shouldn't cost much in
a trade. Bolte from the A's and to a lesser degree Thomas, too, they may be pitching desperate
just to get through 2026.
Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
Agreed! The Giants system has been down for a bit, but this guy always seemed like he had a little talent. They seem crunched with their roster and him being out of options, was one of the first guys I could think of that may be available for not a lot. Bolte got hurt didn't he, or am i thinking of someone else?renostl wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 14:17 pmIt has been years since I have seen much out of the Giants system.

Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
If Saggese proves to be a capable defensive OF, then I think the search for another RH bat in '26 will be over.

in MT for a bit recently.
Matos could be a decent target. He may be more hit than power though but few
hit for power in SF. The only reason I bring up power is that's the biggest hole the
Cardinals need to put a dent in.
Re: Are They Serious About A RHH?
He'd be a strong addition to it if he did, or he might just be the other RHB in the OF'sBasil Shabazz wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 14:57 pm If Saggese proves to be a capable defensive OF, then I think the search for another RH bat in '26 will be over.
replacement or a certain infielder's replacement.
I don't think the Cardinals had anyone in the top 10 at whatever position
that they played in the top 10 in power. There are openings for a couple.
TS, JW, Velazquez a couple need to produce. I'm ok with giving them a chance.
It be easier to give it if it didn't have as much of a Groundhog Day vibe to it.
